Biography

WA trio Eskimo Joe has come a long way since their humble beginnings as much-loved indie rock kids in Fremantle, Western Australia.

Through the early EP's, Sweater and the self-titled Eskimo Joe, featuring "Turn Up Your Stereo", they endeared themselves to kids country-wide. The EPs were closely followed by their debut album, Girl, featuring beautiful indie ballad, "Liar", and singles, "Who Sold Her Out" and "Wake Up". Using striking visuals with cutting edge video clips and artwork, the band impressed the public and critics alike with a gold selling collection. Their experiences as a band progressed them musically into their second full-length album, A Song Is A City, produced by Paul McKercher and the band. The single "From the Sea" launched them to a massive double-platinum selling success and a spoke of what was to come.

2006's Black Fingernails, Red Wine, was the culmination of all their previous works in a cohesive and pounding shot of dark rock that hit straight at the heart of Australians. Debuting at number one on the national album charts and four-times platinum sales later, the three-piece, which now have two extra touring members, hit the road in the US, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Korea and the UK to support releases internationally.

Inshalla, their next musically diverse and internationally flavoured fourth offering delivered a Led Zeppelin tinged, middle eastern flavoured single in "Foreign Land", which earned the band the most played Australian song on radio in 2009, along with an APRA award for "Best Rock Song".

Ghosts Of The Past, the band's fifth studio album was released on August 12, 2011 and the first single - "Love Is A Drug" quickly became Australia's most added song to radio in it's first week, with the album debuting in the #3 position in the ARIA charts upon it's release. Featuring the production team from Black Fingernails, Red Wine - Ghosts of The Past is a return to Eskimo Joe's rock roots.

Ghosts Of The Past is out now through Warner Music Australia / Dirt Diamonds Productions and at available at all good record stores and digitally online. The new single "Echo" is at radio now.

Lyrics

Black Fingernails, Red Wine

Written By: Eskimo Joe

Black fingernails, red wine
I wanna make you, all mine
A lotta people, underground
You wanna get there
You gotta go straight down

There’s a culture, everywhere
Smoke clouds, hang in the air
It’s so loud, can't here you talk
You and I, should take a walk down town

Straight down

Down town

Straight down

The argument over god continues
In this house
All of us stand and point our fingers
At the ground
All of us stand and point our fingers

Straight down

Red-letter day, black heart
Its gonna tear you, all apart
It’s so loud; can’t you call
You and I, are gonna fall straight down

Straight down

Down town

Straight down

The argument over god continues
In this house
All of us stand and point our fingers
At the ground
Argument over all continues
In this house
All of stand and point our fingers

Straight down

Black fingernails, red wine
I wanna make you, all mine
A lotta people, under ground
You wanna get there, you gotta go straight down

The argument over god continues
In this house
All of us stand and point our fingers
At the ground
Argument over all continues
In this house
All of us stand and point our fingers

Straight down

Sarah

Written By: Eskimo Joe

Sarah
Won't you tell me your name
I’ve been waiting here for hours
In the garden by the flowers
You’re so shy
So just open your eye’s
The boy’s all form a line
To be written out in time
A long, long, long, long time ago

Emergency
I think I am falling apart
Emergency
I think I am losing the fight
And I don’t know if I can do it
I don’t know if I can try
I don’t know if any one
Asked me the reason I lied
She sighed

Sarah
Is she you’re new best friend
In one day it will end
You know it will
You’re so shy
So just let it fall apart
Let it stumble in the dark
With the razors in your heart
A long, long, long, long time ago

Emergency
I think I am falling apart
Emergency
I think I am losing the fight
And I don’t know if I can do it
I don’t know if I can try
I don’t know if any one
Asked me the reason lied
She sighed

She sighed

You’re so shy

New York

Written By: Eskimo Joe

Hey, hey, I know it wasn’t New York
Where I lost my mind
Hey, hey I know I must of left it
It was back home all the time
And where were you while we lay
So drunk that we died
Hey, hey I know but who could blame us
Under pressure

And I know
I should’ve stayed in bed

Hey, hey I know it’s just a toothache
I won’t even cry
Hey, hey the candy store prescriptions
All lined up in the isle
And where were you while we lay
Ship wrecked in denial
Hey, hey it’s just a little pill to help you
Sleep right through the night

I should’ve stayed in bed
And I know

Because tomorrow’s gonna be another party
You stay to long until the lights get lonely
Oh, tomorrow’s gonna be another party
You wait to long
Till we all stay out of the sun

The sun

And I know
I should’ve stayed in bed

I know, I know it wasn’t New york, New york

London Bombs

Written By: Eskimo Joe

Drag me by the ankles
To the bottom of the ocean
There I'll stay forever
Until you come back from England

The London bombs

I stayed up forever
Tried to call your number
But you were lost forever
In the early days of winter

The London bombs

Dirty little town on the Thames is calling you away

I stay up forever
Try to find the answer
In the sun I wait for you

The London bombs

Dirty little town on the Thames is calling you away

The London bombs

Foreign Land

Written By: Eskimo Joe

Steady my shakey hands
Shut out the worlds demands
Just get the facts down
Do you understand

This is a foreign land
So try to understand me
Do you understand
So you understand

If this is what it feels to love
Then I can feel that

Even when your all alone
Even if its not your home

Take a little look around
Melting as it hits the ground
I touch my hand
Up to the air

Dying in a foreign land
So do you understand me
Do you understand
Do you understand

If this is what it feels to love
Then I can feel that

Even when your all alone
Even when its not your home

I smell the blood of an Australian
Try to understand me if you can

Don't Let Me Down

Written By: Eskimo Joe

Everytime I wake up on my own
I say a little prayer to bring you home
I know you want
I know you won’t
You won’t let me down

Nobody gonna sleep tonight
Nobody gonna see you if you hide
Nobody got second sight
Nobody gonna see the light

All our hopes and all our dreams
And as the baby screams
Don’t let me down
Don’t let me down

I know you won’t
I know you won’t
You won’t let me

Everytime I wake up on my own
I say a little prayer to bring you home
I know you want
I know you won’t
You wont let me down

Don’t let me down

No need to get so uptight
Nobody gonna start a fight tonight
It dosen’t matter if we make it right
All that matters is we just turn out the light

Some little things to make you understand
Some little things
You never give a damn

Go to sleep at three am
And as the baby screams
Don’t let me

I know you won’t
I know you won’t
You wont let me

Everytime I wake up on my own
I say a little prayer to bring you home
I know you want
I know you won’t
You won’t let me
You won’t let me down

All I want is you to stay
So tell me why I act this way
Some little things that make you understand
Some little things you never give a damn
Some little things that I can never change
Some little things will never be the same for me

Everytime I wake up on my own
I say a little prayer to bring you home
Everytime I wake up on my own
I say a little prayer to bring you home

Love Is A Drug

Written By: Eskimo Joe

Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
And we’re crying again
Fighting with our backs to the wall
While our blood’s on fire
Love is a drug but you still can’t fool desire
But I’m trying

We lost total control
We lost total control

Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
Take what you want but you still can’t fool desire
We lost total control
Total control
Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher

Walking with our eyes to the sky on a tight rope wire
Fight like a flame in the night till our hearts get tired
But we’re trying
Just one taste will replace anything you want
It shoots up the droppers arm till you hit the floor
Now I’m dying

We lost total control
We lost total control

Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
Take what you want but you still can’t fool desire
We lost total control
We lost total control
Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher

Fight like a flame in the night till your heart’s on fire

We lost total control
We lost total control

Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
Take what you want but you still can’t fool desire
We lost total control
We lost total control
Total control
We lost total control
Love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
I said that love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
Yes, love is a drug but the drug won’t take me higher
