Bio
With their first album, Tlescope, getting rave reviews, MAZ is known for melding traditional Qubecois music, jazz and electro along with incredible on-stage energy.
Following close on the heels of Tlescopes
2012 Juno nomination (Instrumental Album of the Year), three 2011 Canadian Folk
Music Award nominations (Ensemble of the Year, Instrumental Album of the Year
and World Album of the Year) and being shortlisted for Indie Acoustic Projects
Best Instrumental Album of 2011, MAZ is now scaling new heights with their
second album, Chasse-Galerie.
Conserving MAZs roots in the trad-modern union, Marc Maziade (electric guitar,
banjo, foot percussion and programming), Pierre-Olivier Dufresne (violin,
mandolin and foot percussion), Gabriel Godbout-Castonguay (keys), Mathieu Royer
and Benoit Coulombe (double bass) invite you on a trip to a world of original
compositions starting from traditional French-Canadian music, through the
depths of modal jazz and into trance-inducing modern music.
Since its debut, MAZ has performed official showcases at the Ontario Council Folk Festival conference (Niagara Falls, ON), the Folk Alliance International (Memphis, TN), the Mundial Montral (Montral, QC) and the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (New York, NY) garnering rave reviews and further invitations to perform.
With this visibility, MAZ has had the privilege to share its music with audiences from British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec in a 21 show tour passing through 11 cities and villages all across the country. To name a few, Vancouver, London, Toronto and Montreal gave a warm welcome to the new sounds being proposed by the band.
With the launch of Chasse-Galerie last November
in a full venue, the group continues to stand out in the current musical
landscape. The album already harvested excellent critics and is now climbing jazz, folk and
international charts across Canada, including CFUV, CFMH, CJSW, CJAM, CFRU,
CIBL and CKUA.
