"Ess & The Cancel Bully Culture Movement"

“It’s easy to negatively define yourself based on life experiences and circumstances, but in reality, believing less of yourself is self-sabotage.” – Ess.

Solange Jacques a.k.a Ess. Ess is a new pop artist from Atlanta, Georgia and is taking her big dreams from the basement to higher floors. Upon releasing her singles “Real Good” and “Fences”, this Atlanta artist shares her childhood years to adult years throughout her music. She shares her experiences like being bullied in school to falling in love, her music inspirations, her journey to self-appreciation and what’s next for her and music.

Ess has enjoyed writing poetry since she was young and used it as an outlet to express what she feels and has gone through. Growing up, she was bullied from grade school to high school, so she sympathizes and understands the feelings and reality of those victimized by bullying. “Being bullied is like a deep wound that takes a long time to heal” -Ess.

#CANCELBULLYCULTURE

Music is in her blood especially having grown up with musicians like her uncle and her father that also composed music. Listening to Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, OutKast, etc are big influencers in Ess’s life and musical journey. When reconnecting back to poetry after years of separation, Ess started writing lyrics and hooks together with an instrumental and without even realizing, she started creating her own songs.

Loving the way her music felt, she started sharing it amongst her friends and family, only to soon meet and connect with another artist Jamal the Creative. He called his producers and arranged studio time hours that flew by and before you know it, “Fences” was created. To be on the fence is a lack of decisiveness on an issue or situation. The song “Fences” depicts deciding whether to stay in a relationship that’s not real or leave with a heartache.” Being true to yourself can be hard, but Ess’s faithfulness to writing from her heart about self-love and learning who she is as a person and an artist is just the start of her mark being made.

“Self-love can’t exist without self-care”.

“A selfless person”, her close ones say about her. Ess tends to be protective of her family and friends. Like we all do at times, she puts her loved ones first, while putting her emotions and well-being to the side which made room for choosing the wrong friends and love interests. As a result, Ess removed all possible negativity out of her life and became best friends with herself. “Self-love can’t exist without self-care”. As defined by Ess, “Self-care is taking the time out to magnify your mind, body and soul, with adding self-love, and being unapologetic for who you are and how you are. The best advice given to Ess was “Even if others abandon you, you must never abandon yourself.” -T. Helwig. This and many more birthed the writing and completion of “Real Good” that was released in March. “It’s a feel-good song. Love yourself and don’t accept fake love”.

What’s new and in the future for Ess? Ess is currently working on her first EP called “Biology”, while working on her Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Real Estate. Ess is expected to receive her Real Estate license in the summer and is securing the bag from the entertainment industry to the real estate business. “I’m a jack of all trades”. In essence, Ess is putting herself first and tending to what she desires all while creating new interests and art. - Lye Productions
