Cali bred music man, poet, advocate, and self-proclaimed “dream chaser� Samuel L. Morris III, aka ESSENS3, entered this world with one goal in mind: to lead others to personal and societal freedom. At the age of 10, he recognized his musical inclination; his dream was then born.

With musical influences like 2pac, Bob Marley, John Lennon, Nas, and Michael Jackson you can see the relation. These musical leaders aim for renewed world awakening, as their a stories trail behind, fueling their ability.

What is ESSENS3's story?

When ESSENS3 was in his mother's womb, she was shot 6 times in her stomach. Being true survivors, she and her son lived. As with most young males growing up in the projects of Oakland, CA, life wasn't easy. ESSENS3's parents were addicted to cocaine, which forced him to be the provider of the house, fending for himself and his younger sisters. The only way he knew to provide was to sell drugs and rob; anything to survive. This way of life had ESSENS3 going in and out of juvenile hall.

ESSENS3 had a true passion to do something positive with his life, so he turned to his childhood dream of becoming a rap artist. He used his writing skills and music-making talent in a positive light to help others, allowing the influence of his savior, Jesus Christ, to shine through his words.

Injustice in ESSENS3's family

ESSENS3's cousin, Oscar Grant III, was wrongfully taken from this world by the hands of a police officer, Johannes Mehserle. The officer responsible was only sentenced to two years, and only served eleven months in county jail. ESSENS3 is also the nephew of Oscar Grant Jr., the father of Oscar Grant III, who was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for a crime he did not commit.

Through his music and public speaking, ESSENS3 is in pursuit of justice and the elimination of crimes against the innocent.

Where did the name ESSENS3 come from?

ESSENS3 and his father were taking a drive, listening to some of his new music when ESSENS3 noticed a few tears coming down his father's face. He shared with his father that he was trying to figure out a rap name for himself, so he asked for his father's advice.

His father stated, "You should call yourself, ESSENS3, because your music comes from your soul; your lyrics...they are the essence of your being."

ESSENS3 adopted the new rap name. To honor his family and acknowledge his third generation namesake, ESSENS3 transformed the last letter, "E", to the number 3.

ESSENS3 currently resides in Hollywood, CA, where he is of high demand within the local industry. ESSENS3 is an independent artist with extreme potential for mass popularity.
