External Auditory – Estedy
Estedy's most-recent release is a local heavy-music milestone – and quite possibly the defining local metal release of 2002. Though the album is less diverse in content than MiniVoid's Readjust or Vic Crown's Long Time Coming, its presentation is much stronger. Assuming your ears are accustomed to the dense, modern heavy-metal style – and that you can easily digest the dark and melancholy mood of such music – there's much to enjoy and brood over here. External Auditory's production quality is quite good, nearly rivaling some major-label releases. Of particular note is the raw power of one of Estedy's more-notable numbers, "Mourning Sickness" – the song's live punch was preserved in the translation. The album's only nagging flaw is a lack of diversity material-wise. While all the songs are well-arranged, many sound incredibly similar, making the album seem a little repetitive. Still, External Auditory is a thematically solid release that makes the best case yet for giving Estedy a listen. Rating: 4 out of 5.

Hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, estedy is a powerhouse of emotion mixed with blistering heaviness. These 3 friends formed the band in 1997, and have been going strong ever since. Judging from their live shows, estedy will be a common name in heavy music in the future. Actively pursuing their careers by recently recording their first EP "External Auditory"(due out late spring of 2002), the future holds nothing but great things for estedy. With a steady draw of 500 to 600 people in their hometown and constant out of town gigging it seems the future will come sooner than expected. "I just try to create an original vibe and style. You know, something that can get the kids moving while staying true to my self," comments lead singer Danny Rich.
Estedy began in 1997 with Stephen Armstrong(drums), and Daren Searcy(guitar) jamming in their basement. Danny Rich soon lent his violently melodic vocals. After parting with a previous bassist, Jaren Tarrents was asked to fill the spot. "We all know what we want to do with our lives, making music and having fun is all that really matters to us," says Daren. With Brad McMinn running samples and various sounds it seems nothing can stop estedy from achieving their dreams.
