"SoCal metal act in review"

Every so often a CD comes along that just
blows me away. "Dylate" is by far one of the
best albums I have ever heard by an unsigned
band! Hailing from San Diego, Etched In Red
is one amazing band that has so much talent
musically,vocally, and lyrically, I'm
surprised that this incredible band hasn't
already been signed by a major label. I am
so impressed with their 2007 release that
I'm completely hooked and can't stop
listening to it.The album starts off strong
with "Infallible" and "Paradox", and
continues on with well-structured, vocally-
driven songs that will capture the listener
instantly with their masterful flow. My
personal favorites are "Sifting Through" and
"Glaive" due to the beautifully composed
riffs and melodic vocals with just the right
amount of screams, while the music switches
from heavy to soft and back. It's a mature
sound with lots of emotion and aggression,
perfectly balanced throughout the album. The
lyrics are haunting yet sophisticated,
forcing the listener to pay attention,
reminding me somewhat of Tool. It's
impossible not to be impressed by this five
-piece band whose live performance is just
as powerful as their CD. Especially as you
watch how lead singer Seth effortlessly
switches between the melodic and screaming
vocals. Check them

"Album Review-"Dylate""

"The modern metal landscape is saturated with mediocre bands that still hold on to the antiquated notion that playing loud and fast is enough to pique the interest of fans of the genre. Given that, it's immediately refreshing to hear this California five piece giving their listeners some credit. This is structured, intelligent metal done right, ripe with darkly sophisticated lyrics and dual guitar work that forges a harshly complex sound. Sloughing off the riff-riding, straightforward assault that so many bands fall back on, they have instead managed to put together songs that strategically challenge the audience, jutting from hard to heavy, screams to echoes. All of this is achieved without a formulaic vibe, with each song hitting with equal force but from a distinctly different angle. The method is effective, bordering on a song-within-a-song approach that's sure to keep you in suspense, bracing for what is coming next."

Bio

Etched In Red is a Progressive Metal group for the new millennium. The San Diego, CA-based quintet combines elements of Alternative Rock, Hard Rock, Metal and Progressive Rock that shuns every type of Corporate Rock cliché.

Etched In Red was formed in the fall of 2002 by original members Seth Boyce(vocals), Jason Kirk(guitar), Nick Kramer(guitar), and George Makris. Bassist Chad Gutterud joined the group in 2008. After circulation of early demos throughout the SoCal area, EIR released its debut album, Dylate, in 2007. The album, which was independently engineered and produced, is a collection of hard-hitting yet intelligent Metal songs in the vein of nu-metal-meets-progressive: intelligent, lyrical wordplay delivered through fierce vocals, aggressive and brooding riffs coupled with blistering, elaborate solos and an ambitious rhythm section.

The group has drawn comparisons to various performers such as Dredge, Opeth, Pantera, Deftones and Tool. “Music is the universal language,” says Kirk, “and we feel compelled to speak it as intelligently and emotionally as we can without being pigeon-holed.” The CD has drawn rave reviews across the board from critics of extreme metal to post-grunge alternative.

EIR has shared the stage with contemporaries such as As I Lay Dying, Alien Ant Farm, Drowning Pool, Prong, Powerman 5000, as well as Taproot and have performed in numerous industry showcases where they’ve impressed representatives from Sony, Atlantic and Epic Records, to name a few.

Etched In Red came off a successful summer tour in support of their album, with more regional touring in the works. After a listen to the album or a night at one of their shows, you’ll agree with the critics that this is a band to keep an eye on.
