Bio

My name is Ivan Hedgepeth and I am 21 years old. I’ve been into music production since I was 17 years old and have been writing since I was 15 years old. Since then, I have acquired a vast amount of knowledge regarding pro tools, making beats from scratch, recording techniques, studio set-up, and so forth.
I was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and have lived in Raleigh, North Carolina most of my life. I am a high school graduate. I tried going to college at one point for music production but that didn’t work out. I ended up buying books and teaching myself everything I know. As for right now I have a full time job working with a utility company. I am often told that I have a marketable image. People often ask me my ethnicity, which is Native American, African-American, and Spanish (Spain). And I did include that in one of my songs.
My songs have a very distinct down-south hip-hop feel to them. I love to make the bass drop and the snares pop. That’s my main ingredient when it comes to making a beat. I have produced songs that will make a person that doesn’t dance want to dance. I’ve also made beats that give a sense of suspense as you listen to it. Lyrically, I have been told that I sound like a cross between eminem and jay-z. Sometimes I rap slowly sometimes I rap quickly which depends on how I feel the beat. Sometimes I just freestyle a track with one take and sometimes I feel the need to write. I am very serious about my work and I will do whatever it takes to make it sound good with the resources I have. I have built my own home studio about 2 years ago, which includes an emachines computer, Samson condenser mic, protools6.1, FL studio4.1, and I rigged my stereo and use it as a monitor. This equipment and myself produced all the songs on my demo. I had no help. I want to give props to Frank Nitty for giving me a healthy amount of motivation. When I first started making beats he let me in on a lot about the hip hop industry. So when I’m at Atlantis, “Its goin down!’
I think that the Atlantis Music Conference will be an outstanding opportunity for exposure. There isn’t really a big market for music in North Carolina because everybody bootlegs. Once I get my foot in the door, I would like to house a record label in which I will be the ceo and main producer. Similar to Dr. Dre. (Whom I have a lot of respect for), I want to give the whole industry what I have to offer musically. I want to be a reputable label, which represents North Carolina. I want to put us on the map for good. I already have 5 solid hip-hop groups ready to make an impact on the industry. All of who I trust and am willing to work with. I have been working very hard for the past 3 years trying to perfect my music and hopefully this conference with give me great feedback. Thank you for allowing me this rare opportunity. And to whoever is reading this, please find it in your heart to give me a chance and I promise I won’t be a disappointment. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ivan A. Hedgepeth
