Ether Park

BandAlternativePop

Maximum pop. Electric performances of blues influenced alternative pop. LOTS OF GREAT SONGS. Cake Magazine says " Crafty, confident, and more than a little clever pop music...This is smart work."

Biography

Singer/songwriter Susan Bachner creates alternative pop, influenced by Elvis Costello, John Phillips, the Jam, Squeeze. Without a record deal , Ether Park has charted often in CMJ with colleges in the U.S. and Canada, with top 10, 20, and 30 lists. What sets us apart from other bands is the excitement and electricity of our music, combined with refined song writing generally not seen in most other bands. Ether Park songs are satisfying melodically, and carry clever, insightful pictures of the world.
Ether Park has played many well known venues in NYC, including Arlene Grocery, the Mercury Lounge, and Webster Hall. Music conferences and festivals include: The Philadelphia Music Conference,The Digital Club Fest, NYC's Viper Ball, and the Irish Expo.
Other gigs include several east coast colleges, and the Kendall Cafe in Boston, a stage that has been visited by Jason Falkner and Elvis Costello.
Their second EP CD "Ether Park and Friends Visit the Island of Misfit Toys", containing unique alternative covers of holiday tunes, has become a seasonal favorite of college radio in the last few years. Ether Park performed these songs at the Continental in NYC, as part of their fund raising benefit for Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund
(established to give aid to the families of vicitms of the World Trade Center Tragedy who worked in the food service profession.)

Lyrics

Guru on the Speakerphone

Written By: Susan Bachner

He's a miracle guy
who looks you in the eye
and he knows exactly who you are.
You would know that I'm right if he was here tonight but he's only calling from the car.
He's the top- he's a dream.
In just a minute you'll know what I mean, cause the Guru on the speakerphone's making the scene.
It'll help you unwind and you're not gonna mind, cause he knows exactly what you think.
Your resistance will slide, then you're down for the ride, pour your hesitations down the sink.
And he knows all there is.
And everything we want is truly his.
Now the Guru's on the speakerphone,
making it fizz.
Gather round children, its time for his call. You need an invitation 'cause he's filling the hall. Its better to have him this way than not to have him at all.
(Bridge)
And noone wants to leave the Guru. His following is solidly built. Do you think that cows leave farmers when they wanna get milked?

Its too good to be wrong. You better get you some before he's gone. And the Guru on the speakerphone's turning us on and on and on and on...

The Guru on the speakerphone
The Guru on the speakerphone
The Guru on the speakerphone

Wish I Could Wish You Well

Written By: Susan Bachner

I wish I could wish you well.
Well, I'll try not to wish you bad. But I really can't wish you well.
Its hard when I think of the times we've had. Didn't want it to end so sad. But I really can't wish you well.

I'd gladly walk three quarters of the way to you.
But you can't give an inch. I guess thats just too hard for you to do.
Someday maybe something will change somehow. But I've gotta live with whats now. And for now I can't wish you well.

(Bridge)
I know that it would be
a whole lot better for me,
if I could figure what it's like to be you. And every time I have to see you..

I wish I could wish you well. Well I'll try not to wish you bad. But I really can't wish you well. Its hard when I think of the times we had. Didn't want it to end so sad. But I really can't wish you well.

So go and have it all your way this last time through.
But I can't be your friend.
I guess that's just too hard for me to do.

Someday maybe something will change somehow. But I've gotta live with what's now. And for now I can't wish you well. No.
Though I wish I could wish you well.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yes, I wish I could wish you well.

Love Comes in at An Angle

Written By: Susan Bachner

Ahhh-
Love comes in at an angle.
Love walks in from the side.
And you can't tell it to do what you want it to do - though it might hurt your pride.

Like peripheral vision, kind of obtuse and wide.
And you can't tell it to be what you want it to be.
No you can't pull the tide.
Love comes in at an angle;no, you can't pull the tide.

(Bridge)
A perennial dangle, between courage and pride.
It's so easy to mangle, and so painful to hide.

Love comes in from an angle. Love walks in from the side. And you can't tell it to do what you want it to do, though it might hurt your pride. Love comes in at an angle. No,you can't pull the tide.

(Bridge)
It won't listen to reason, and it doesn't take sides. Easier to change seasons, with those smart things you tried.

Love comes in at an angle. Love comes in from the side. And you can't tell it to do what you want it to do. No you can't pull the tide.
Love comes in at an angle.
No, you can't pull the tide.
