Ethnogenesis: (ethnos(nation)+"genesis(birth) Greek: Εθνογένεσι) is the process by which a group of human beings comes to be understood as distinct from the society from which their group emerges.
How it all started:
Ethnogenesis began as a casual project between Austin Vincent, who sang and couldn't play an instrument at the time, and Ben West, who played keyboard, sometime in 2007 as a bunch of assorted riffs, compositions, lyrics, and ideas, under a different name altogether. Lineup members came and went as did ideas for what styles of music the group should make. Chris Jackson joined the band in early 2008, temporarily leaving during the summer but returning to become the permanent lead guitarist. Christian Williams entered the band in late 2008 and filled the long vacant role of the drummer for good. Joey Zichler filled the spot in the band of bassist in late 2009. Numerous discussions and debates over what genre of music the band should play occured over the years, but a verdict was reached. Instead of forcing Ethnogenesis into being any one genre, the band would make music that was enjoyable and not forced, whatever category that may fall into. We look forward to showing you what that is!
