Bio
Etran Finatawa met at the 2004 Festival in the Desert in Essakane, Mali. Originally two distinct musics as well as ethnic groups from neighboring Niger, they enjoyed jamming onstage so much they have become an internationally touring ensemble ever since. The Tuareg are known for their love of poetry and music, and the Wodaabe for their beautiful polyphonic singing, painted faces, and dance. Both nomadic herders, together the members of Etran Finatawa recreate an evening in the Sahel, evoking the rhythms of life in the desert.
