Biography

Straight out of Columbus, Ohio, this 15 year old, hip-hop/R&B singer/songwriter, Etté, is definitely the next big teen sensation. Etté, pronounced (Et-tay), has been setting out to make an impression since the tender age of 4, just as a hobby.

At 6, Etté gained a lead soloist position at her church in the youth choir. Practicing and performing weekly made her vocals blend with perfection and strength at an early age. Etté has such a unique sound that it cannot be described with just one word. Talent that stems from her religious background coupled with her musical influences which include Patti LaBelle, Whitney Houston, Karen Clark-Sheard, Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, and Mary J. Blidge.

At the age of 8, Etté’s mother, who managed and owned a local booking agency, recognized her daughter’s ambition to become an entertainer and decided to showcase her performing skills at local talent-shows and showcases.

"Being on stage for the first time was a great experience for me. At first I was terrified! I really didn’t think that I was ready to go up on stage, but I had convinced all my family & friends that I could do it and it was too late to turn back. When I stepped on that stage and had everybody’s attention on me, it was clear to me where I belonged. Once I was on that stage, you couldn’t get me off. I’ll never forget the feeling. I loved it. Being on stage pushed me to get more in tune with my decision to become an entertainer.” Says, Etté.

Being so young Etté struggled to break through barriers, competing against entertainers much older than her. Some people thought that she was too young to be serious enough to succeed. Now Etté’s talent and experience has earned her more respect.

This petite performer’s persistent attitude earned her a demo deal with Infantry Records, an independent record label based out of Columbus, Ohio. Etté teamed up with producer Waheed "Mann" Barton to do a three song demo.

Etté, only 13 when she wrote her first single titled “Tell Me Whassup,” which is the first track on her demo, and "Do Ya Think" the second song on track was written by Niquia Clark an upcomming singer/songwriter. Trunell Salter, a singer/songwriter, wrote and arranged “Hard 2 Get”, the third track on the demo and Waheed composed and recorded the music for all three tracks.

Etté’s demo definitely has issues that teens can relate to, coupled with high energy hip-hop dance tracks and catchy hooks.

“Hard 2 Get”

Written By: Trunell Salter 2003 ©

Woo oh ya
Are you feelin me?
Listen,

I get up to go to school everyday
I get dressed with Tommy on my back
And air force ones on my feet
(Woo oh oh) but anyway
I know this guy
And I know he likes me
But like every boy I see
He’s playing hard to get
Cuz I know and he knows
He wants me

(Chorus)
Every time I turn around
I see you looking at me
Every time I’m in the hall
way you walk by me
But won’t talk to me
(Why not? Why not?)
How will you know that I’m feelin you too?
So won’t ya be a man and step to me
Cuz I won’t hurt you

Oh you could’ve been my boy friend
Oh so long ago
But ya never said anything
I can see us five years
down the line
You got my neck on ice
Prada down real nice
Rollin on them gleamy things
But ya chose other wise

(Chorus)
Cuz I won’t hurt you Every time I turn around
I see you looking at me
Every time I’m in the hall way you walk by me
But won’t talk to me
(Why not? Why not?)
How will you know that I’m feelin you too?
So won’t ya be a man and step to me
Cuz I won’t hurt you

Oh boy if you really like me
Ya just tell me
Cuz I really wanna know your name
Want ya to know my name
Oh boy if you really like me
Ya just tell me
Cuz I really wanna know your name
Want ya to know my name
Ooh

(Chorus)
Every time I turn around
I see you looking at me
Every time I’m in the hall way you walk by me
But won’t talk to me
(Why not? Why not?)
How will you know that I’m feelin you too?
So won’t ya be a man and step to me
Cuz I won’t hurt you

You should have talked to me boy?
Ya could have been my boyfriend, my boyfriend

So tell me whassup?

There’s no time for hesitation
When I know you want me
Tired of all these games you’re playin
So if you wanna talk to me
Let me know
Whassup wit me and you?
And ain’t no body holdin you back
So do what chu came to do

(Chorus) repeat 2x
I know you want me baby
There ain’t no doubt about it

So tell me whassup?

Boy if you really want me
Come over here and speak
And baby don’t be shy
Cuz my love won’t bite
And maybe you’ll see
The possibilities
So come and get my love
And tell me whassup?

“Do Ya Think”

Written By: Niquia Clark 2003 ©

Mmmm oh na na na na na noooh
Mmmm mmmm mmm

I know you have a girl
But still I think your fly
There’s something real in you
I gotta make you mine
It’s not the first or the second time
That you have caught me eye
This feeling I can’t deny
So let’s make this right

(Chorus)
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If her man , he tried to leave?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If he steps my way?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If her man, he tried to leave?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If he doesn’t stay?

I must admit that I
Had to front the very first time
That you and her were seen
Dating,dating
No, I’m not hatin on her
I just wish I saw you first
Wish the best and not the worst
Now let’s make this work

(Chorus)
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If her man, he tried to leave?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If he steps my way?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If her man, he tried to leave?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If he doesn’t stay?

Do think she’ll be mad at me?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If he doesn’t stay?
If he doesn’t stay?
(Now let’s make this right?)

(Chorus)
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If her man , he tried to leave?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If he steps my way?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If her man , he tried to leave?
Do think she’ll be mad at me?
If he doesn’t stay?
