Bio

Singapore-born, American-trained, singer/songwriter Eunice Sim is a bundle of surprises for the New England music scene. Not your typical Asian pop artist, Sim weds articulate urban curiosity with a natural rock-and-rhyme musicality.

Formerly lead singer for Singapore’s pop-rock group Elmo, the music of which climbed the local radio charts, this now Boston-based artist came to the U.S. to improve as a writer. Winning Performer and Songwriter competitions at Berklee College of Music, Sim has proven that she is indeed ready to impress wherever she lands.

Sim’s song, an early composition as a student, Permanent Summertime, was picked up by Creative to be included in their NOMAD Mp3 players. She performs both as a solo artist, on the piano and guitar, and with her band that includes Taylor Hanson from Sifted (www.thesifted.com), a band previously based in Boston.

Her savvy songwriting, ingénue-on-the edge vocals, and fresh alternative pop grooves take the listener seamlessly from electric to acoustic without missing a beat. She is constantly surprising though not pretentious, with the smarts of Shawn Colvin, the ingenious hooks of Sheryl Crow and the whimsy of Sarah McLachlan – all in a younger presence and fresher voice.

As suggested by the title of her recently released debut CD, Stronger Than Some, Eunice Sim is a cut above, and unabashedly stronger than most. The recording captivates from first cut to last. From the slick, pop groove of “Eloise” to the guitar driven energy of “Gathering of Me” to the masterful vocal precipices of “Into Pieces”, Stronger Than Some is a very repeatable journey with view after surprising view.

Sim has been performing in the Boston/Cambridge area, in clubs like the Kendall Café, Harper’s Ferry and the Kirkland Café. She’s also been at college coffeehouses and opened for Siler’s Bald at Wellesley College in 2001. Sim has also been a featured performer at Cambridge’s Lydia Fair 2001, 2002 & 2003, an annual arts event celebrating women artists.
