Bio

Organic, alternate / indie, folk-rock with a twist of the sixties & a sprinkling of blues, Evan Alexander's songs blend a potent musical intent with sharp lyrical observations of human nature and it's inherent peculiarities. His live performances are vigorously delivered and characterized by driving rhythms, musicality, subtle flourishes and a stark conviction for what he does. With his band ‘The Secrets of Pleasure’ and as a solo performer, he has played at pubs, clubs, café's, restaurants, parties & shindigs all across Australia including such premier Brisbane venues as The Zoo, The Troubadour and 'The Tongue 'n' Groove', where he held a three month Saturday night residency.

A finalist in the QLD rock awards, following a quick tour down the East Coast of Australia, Evan completed a six-week tour of East Coast USA in June/July of last year. Last April, with ‘The Secrets Of Pleasure’ he recorded and released a ‘Live 2 Air’ EP for 4ZZZ FM. His self produced 2003 debut EP '3:30 am' received JJJ support (especially on Rosie Beaton's “Super-request” show), as well as continuing rotation on somewhere in the realm of fifty community & commercial stations all across Australia, including RRR & PBS in Melbourne, FBI in Sydney, Edge Radio in Hobart, CCC Alice Springs, RTR FM in WA, Radio Adelaide, VOX FM in Wollongong, TUNE FM in Armidale and BAY FM in Byron Bay. Second single 'Black & Clear Beads received a similar reception, adding commercial FM stations like Hot Tomato on the Gold Coast to the list.

Born in the tropics of Papua New Guinea twenty-eight years ago to an Australian father and American mother, Evan Alexander grew up a transient global citizen. From New Guinea to England, England to Oman (Arabia) and Oman to New York City, his family moved constantly until eventually arriving in Australia. Yet the pattern has proved hard to break, he has since made his home in Sydney, Adelaide, Tasmania, Byron Bay and for the last two and a half years Brisbane, where he continues to build a substantial local fan base. A freelance journalist, he writes for a number of street press and e-zines, run’s his own publicity company Heapsaflash Music Media Management, manages blues/roots rockers ‘Nebo’ and hosts his own new release show “The Sorting Table’ on Brisbane's 4ZZZ FM.

Work is in full swing on a successor for '3:30 am'; eight tracks for Evan's sophomore EP “No Off Position” were recorded last month and mixing is nearly complete. Dates are currently being finalised for a tour of east coast Australia this summer.
