"Music Reviews"

Came Across this ladies music on Face book was instantly addicted to the title track and its ability to get inside my head with the ease of a pre recessionary politician, from the opening lines of track 1."my side" the lyrics started to paint a picture to accompany this accomplished newcomers voice, for my own reasons the lyrics brought forward strains of bonnie raitt, and at times Mary Chapin Carpenter(Track 9), but by my third listen I had no doubt I was listening to Eva Porter. there is a sense of inner strength attached to most of these songs even those where emotions are laid bare, and pain is explored, In track 2 Jealousy her lyrical skills are perhaps at their most experimental and perhaps even restrained but the result is a classic in the making, oh and for all you who are missing someone due to our return to immigration days there is the melodic track 11 that takes us on a journey from boy to man in a future aer lingus advert soundtrack
This is music for Wine, music for friends, Music for hope, and above all Music for you - Mike Gleeson, Snazzy Ireland.

"Carrigtwohill Mum wears her Heart on her Sleeve"

..... " Eva has taken the unusual and brave step of recording her own songs first. The normal protocol is for singers to spend time working their craft, playing bars, clubs and anywhere in public they can. .... But Eva has done the exact opposite, writing and recording the album first and only now will she start to perform her songs to a wider public audience " - Shane Supple, The East Cork Journal

Bio

It might seem strange that a mother of three, working in insurance, who had never done a gig, decided to record an album of her own songs but that's exactly what Eva Porter has done.

Eva has been been writing songs since the age of twelve and has always had a passion for music but never took it further than home.

It was only when her then 6 year old son told her on a drive home one night, after they had been singing along to a song Eva had written, that he thought his mum should make a record, that Eva decided to give it go.

18 months ago the journey from singing her songs to her children to sharing them on her debut album “Heart on my Sleeve” began in earnest.

It started with a phone call to Eva’s uncle, Cork singer & soon to be co-writer Joe Corbett. Over the next year, Eva & Joe collaborated on the songs for the album.

Brian Connor, Belfast keyboard player and producer whose credits include albums for Freddie White and Albert Niland, heard Eva’s demos and signed on as producer. Brian played keyboards on the album and assembled a line up of Ireland’s finest musicians to join him - Johnny Scott, guitarist, Rod Patterson, bassist and Danny Byrt, percussion. The album was recorded in Sonas Studios, Glenflesk, Co. Kerry in December 2009. The album was engineered by Tony O’Flaherty of Sonas Studios and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty.

Eva’s music reflects her wide range of musical influences and love of folk, country and soul. Eva's influences include Karen Carpenter, Tracey Chapman, Pink, Joni Mitchel, Carole King, Mary Chapin Carpenter, James Taylor, Alanis Morrissette, Maura O'Connell, Billy Joel, Elton John, Gemma Hayes, Declan O'Rourke, Martin Gore.
