If you still think all dance pop sounds the exact same, you haven’t heard Eve Minor. The playful pop/hip hop artist based in New York doesn’t lose her SoCal roots with new single “Piggy Bank”. This pop anthem is not only ridiculously catchy, but has lyrics that shockingly contrast the fun beats, fearlessly claiming in its infectious chorus, “Easy come, easy go fillin’ up my piggy bank till it explodes, I got 14 karat watches and gold, gettin’ dirty money, dirty money”. The songstress’s words make Trap Queen look like child’s play. Eve Minor’s voice being reminiscent of Melanie Martinez or Mariel Loveland doesn’t make the listener think they’re hearing about what they are, which is part of what makes “Piggy Bank” so entertaining.

Being well-versed in several different genres, Eve Minor has been able to create a sound unlike anything else in the pop scene. The synth is wild and upbeat, and her voice, flirty and certain, both elements that flow in after the pretty piano commencing the song. The music video matches the playful vibe of the track, with most being filmed on a beach. While Eve sells from the back of her car, racking up that dirty money, she’s also shown frolicking around in the sand or playing an acoustic at sunset, which comes in handy for the incredibly rockin’ bridge, where most of the music cuts out and you’re hit with a drum breakdown mix of beats, a common element in hip hop music.

Case in point: today, we get to check out her new single titled “OMG,” a genre-bending track that sees inspiration from Danny Brown, Nine Inch Nails, Beastie Boys and Future. In addition, ‘OMG’ includes references to TLC‘s “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” and R&B/Funk great Rick James, who Minor says is her “spirit animal.” It’s easy to see the latter’s influence, with direct lines like this:

The hook definitely sets the tone for the raunchy and sensual verses within, performing in a melodic, hazy style somewhat reminiscent of Trent Reznor. It’s also a stark contrast from the bubblegum Pop-esque September release “Piggy Bank” which shows Minor’s versatility in regards to her sound.

“OMG” is taken from Eve Minor’s forthcoming mixtape Zombies, which is released sometime next month; that will then be followed by the album Shooting Stars, which said to appear sometime next February. "This one in particular is about being a woman and not adhering to double standards. I am really pro­-woman and entirely for women empowerment. I don’t have conventional music and media, and it’s me being me, and I want women to feel comfortable and beautiful in their own skin and especially with OMG, I think as a woman we’re trapped in this old fashioned view, where we are painted as subservient and incapable of the stereotypical “male” roles.
As a female producer/engineer in a truly male dominated industry, I hope to inspire other women to get out there and not be afraid to live their dreams and banish traditional stereotypes. This song is me saying as a woman that I don’t have to wait for a man to call me, I don’t have to wait for a significant other, I don’t believe in that gender unequal view.
