Heart Behind Your Eyes

Written By: Kathryn DeAnn Coffman (pseudonym EverFree)

What is it makes a love enduring?
Is it the fire that melts your eyes?
Take away clever and alluring;
Would there remain a hint of paradise?

Your warmth, your scent, your arms surround me.
I feel your heart beat next to mine.
I’m lost in love, and yet you’ve found me.
Our futures kiss; our lives entwine.

I’ll take it all: the hopes, the fears, the shared surrender.
I’ll take the lows; I’ll take the highs.
--the spirit’s call, the rise and fall of passions tender.
And if you’ll love me with the heart behind your eyes,
I’ll never leave your side this side of paradise.

The years bring ghosts to gather ‘round us
Of dreams denied and hopes betrayed.
The pains and joys of life have bound us
Strong as the tide, yet unafraid.

So what, if we can’t hold forever?
What finer gift could heaven send:
Each precious hour you’re mind to treasure,
My only lover, my best friend.

We’ve shared it all, the fevered youth, the cold December.
We’ve had our lows; we’ve had our highs.
And through it all, the shining truth that I’ll remember:
You’ve always loved me with the heart behind your eyes.
I’d never let you go, this side of paradise.

I’ll take it all: the hopes, the fears, the shared surrender.
I’ll take the lows; I’ll take the highs.
--the spirit’s call, the rise and fall of passions tender.
You’ve always loved me with the heart behind your eyes.
I’d never let you go, this side of paradise.

FireChild

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

Away in the mists, at the dawn of all Time,
Where the skies breathe of riddles and echos don’t rhyme,
Bred a child of the flame and of evil design;
--and she called herself Firechild.

Her steed was the thunder and fury, her brand.
Many worlds crashed asunder at her lightening command.
In the ruins men wondered what power they’d manned
As they worshiped the Firechild.

And they fall to her side before they believe her.
Forever they’ve tried yet none ever deceive her.
There’s never a web that fate can weave
Firechild can’t burn.

I whisper a secret of passion and flame.
I offer my word, yet the tale is the same:
Forever they play without knowing the game,
But when Lady Luck folds, they remember the name.
--And they seal it with a kiss
As they lose to the Firechild….

At Firechild’s call, darkest night flares to day.
Her desire burns in all, but the strong ones fall prey.
In the blaze of Rome’s fall, there was music, they say
--music written for Firechild.

And they fall to her side before they believe her.
Forever they’ve tried yet none ever deceive her.
There’s never a web that fate can weave
Firechild can’t burn.

--and she calls herself Firechild.

What Is This Flower?

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

What is this flower that blooms upon the rock?
Its finest hour no eyes but mine will ever see.
Its incense fills the air just like a fragrant prayer.
Could it be the scent was meant for only me?

What if my life were spent upon this rock?
--No joy nor strife, no gift nor grace would ever show?
Would I still give my all or let my spirits fall?
What if among all men, no kith nor kin would know?

Maybe the greatest mystery
’s what our Creator sees to nurture in our souls.
While in His splendid care and lonely mountain air,
He lets one purpose bloom for another soul to grow.

God, give me faith to bloom upon the rock
And joy to wait upon your grace to make me whole;
And if one happens by, with Your light, maybe I
Could just express the happiness within my soul.

I love this flower that blooms upon the rock.
Its finest hour no eyes but mine will ever see;
But I can feel its love beneath the skies above.
It opens up its heart, becomes a part of me.

What is this flower?

It Takes A Little More Love

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

We’re both a long way from home,
The folks we know and the place we’ve grown,
And I miss my Mamma, too.
But, Lady, I’ve no regrets;
My heart is yours and I won’t forget
That I pledged my best to you.
I’ve seen a lot of folks just walk away,
But I don’t think that we’ll end that way;
It takes a little more love than we thought, but I think we’ve got it.

White lace and veils are gone.
We’ve learned to cry and just carry on,
But I hate to see you blue.
Someday, we’ll look back and smile,
When we’ve been doing this for a while,
And we know what not to do!
When things don’t go the way that we planned,
You’re still my love and I’m still your man.
It takes a little more love than we thought, but I think we’ve got it.

Lady, I love you!
Baby, we’ll pull through.
Don’t be ashamed and there’s no one to blame
‘cause we’re doing the best that we can.
Just takes a little more love than we thought, but I think we’ve got it.

There’s nothing so sweet to me
As when you hold me so tenderly
And you share your hopes and dreams.
All the stars shimmer in your eyes.
Our troubles pale as I realize
Hope is stronger than it seems.
You give me courage to face every day,
The will to fight and to find a way.
It takes a little more love than we thought, but I think we’ve got it.

Lady, I love you!
All that I am, I give you.
If things stand in our way, keep your chin up and pray
And the blessings will follow some day
It takes a little more love than we thought, but I’ll bet we’ve got it.

Guarded Peace

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

We march with feet that fall as one,
Two hearts that beat a call to arms
in a world that's cold.
Gone, the tears we cried before
We ever thought to win this war
--may we be so bold!

As long as I know that you're out there,
there's nothing that I wouldn't dare...

Some fools may say that there's nothing worth fighting for,
But life's a battle from beginning to end;
So, on the way while we're waging tomorrow's wars,
Let's fight a little for
the love of a friend.

And if we pray for the strength to defeat this foe
And for the will and the skill to defend,
With no pretense, just defense of the life we know...
--Keep fighting even though
the seige never ends;
Let's offer them the strength of a friend.

We strive for days our peace may come
A thousand ways delivered from
every dream that tried;
All I ask is tomorrow's chance,
What fate may task --sorrow, romance--
with our hearts allied

If ever despair overcomes me,
I'll gaze in your eyes to rise free...

Some fools may say that there's nothing worth fighting for
But life's a battle from beginning to end;
So on the way while we're waging tomorrow's wars,
Let's fight a little for
the love of a friend.

And some will say that there's nothing worth dying for
--The only promise delivered from birth
Come peace or hell, we know well what we're vying for;
There's no denying for
we know what it's worth,
This guarded peace of heaven on earth.

Oh, let them say what they will about destiny;
And let them hide, if they may, from our fate.
Put fear and anger aside, take the rest of me
You'll have the best of me
forever, my mate;
Our guarded peace of heaven can't wait.

If Only Time Would Stand

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

I look to the dawn through the grey skies
To the sunrise
On an empty sea
Twilight has left me with misty eyes
As I realize
An eternity has fled.
My soul has bled
For those it loved and lost,
But for a while we forgot the cost.

I watch as the sun touches sleeping eyes
And a dreamer dies
By the light of day.
My senses have run with a shore-bird’s cries
As time flies
Bearing you away from here.
A lonely fear
Has come over me
As I watch helplessly.

Is this all that we have?
Is it all that we ever will?
Cast your hopes in with mine:
We could stay here in time,
If only time would stand still.

I look through the rain in the stormy skies
And the tides rise
In a silent sea.
Tracing the raindrops with teary eyes,
I memorize
How destiny unfolds.
My tale is told
In rhymes of fantasy.
Will you remember me?

And was that all that we had?
Is it all that we ever will?
Cast your hopes in with mine:
We could go back in time,
If only time would stand…

Sleep Baby Sleep

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

Sleep, Baby, sleep
And dream of things that might have been
Shadows cling so deep
I feel like you’re my only friend
Somewhere a baby slumbers without a care
And Mama gently nuzzles his angel’s hair
And sings a lullaby, whispers a grateful prayer
Wish we were there, there.
Some, they never weep…
While I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Sleep, my baby, sleep

Cry, Baby, cry
For all I’ll never give to you
No need wonder why
Pretend I never wanted to
So just let go and reach for a brighter place
One filled with love and warmth and a friendly face
Forget the bitter loss of my hope’s embrace
We never dared, shared
No chance for you and I…
As I let you go, I long to die.
Cry, my baby, cry

Somewhere a baby slumbers without a care
And Mama gently nuzzles his angel’s hair
And sings a lullaby, whispers a grateful prayer
Wish we were there, there.
Some, they never weep…
While I pray to God our souls to keep,
Sleep, my baby, sleep

I pray to God our souls to keep,
Sleep, baby, sleep

Silhouettes On The Water

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

Silhouettes on the water… Midnight shadows on the sea….
Cloaked in ocean mists and moonlight,
What are these tossing waves to me?
This is the life of a sailor, the way of a stranger, a traveler on the wind.
I hear their words scarcely spoken, like waves that have broken o’er whispers of a friend.

Midnight stirs a wind-song. Moonlight dances o’er the bow.
Lonely waves call for an answer.
Only the sailor’s soul knows how.
This is the life full of danger, the way of a stranger, a traveler on the wind.
Give me safe harbor tomorrow, wherever the winds blow or sea currents send.

Silhouettes on the water… Midnight shadows on the sea….
Rolling ceaselessly forever,
What are these endless waves to me?

Message Home

Written By: Kat Coffman (EverFree)

Gentle spirit, brushing by,
Soft across the barren sands
‘Round chill-shrouded mountains high,
Trapped in foreign lands:

Make escape and bear my song
‘Cross the leaden winter sea
To my Heart, who’s waited long,
Loving only me.

Evening twilight, far away,
While I welcome break of day.
Riven touch by time and space,
Souls close as Heaven’s grace.

I am the sights, the sounds of war
Waking, sleeping, ceaselessly.
All that was our life before,
Slumbering memory.

Till I hear a lone bird’s cries
With no mate to cheer her night;
Circling, searching empty skies,
I join her tireless flight.

Hear my feathers stroke the wind
Light I softly with my kin
There, where oft my heart took rest
In my lover’s nest

Here beneath the silver stars,
Cold’s relentless grip my foe,
Longingly I strive afar
So homeward I might go.

If my Love remembers me,
Warms the hearth for my return,
By God’s grace, my destiny:
Lies where my passions yearn.

Keep the embers burning low
Shimmering when the chill winds blow;
I will hasten to my place,
Drawn to your embrace.
