"EP Review"

Waiting for the Light EP - Eve Williams.

The debut EP gets off to a rocking start with the power ballad ‘Waiting for the light’. This track captures Eve and the band in full flight and could be the track destined for commercial success. The melancholic ‘Life is for Living’ allows Eve’s voice to shine with the more relaxed pace showcasing the depth of her vocals. The backing vocals from Paula Williams provide a good foil and the track finishes with a wonderfully atmospheric guitar passage. The final track ‘Homesick’ is a heartfelt elegy of lost love that benefits from sparse piano and voice. Eve Williams voice sits somewhere near Irish contemporaries Joanne Hogg and Maire Brennan. Throughout the EP, Ian McNeil’s Guitar embellishes the songs well without being indulgent and Darren Matthews adds atmospheric Piano. ‘Waiting for the Light’ is an impressive debut and let’s hope it’s not too long a wait for the LP.

"Gig Review"

Eve Williams at the Pavilion
a review by Estrella Ojos submitted on 24/10/2006

The Pavilion Bar in Belfast has a good vibe: its high ceilings, mood lighting, and a stage set back under a low ceiling, all lend themselves to a terrific atmosphere for live music. Especially on Sunday 15th October, when there was a quiet buzz about the place as Eve Williams took the stage.

Accompanied by two guitarists and a bassist, Eve’s ever-graceful voice easily moved between the notes of her songs. Her acoustic rendition of ‘Chain of Fools’ brought out a more soul-ish side to her voice whilst her own songs, such as ‘Homesick’ allowed her to communicate more tender emotions. At times it seemed she may have been holding back; nonetheless, I still had her tunes in my head a day or two later.

Having seen her perform on other occasions, this was her best performance yet. I look forward to hearing more of her repertoire in future.

"About Eve"

Eve Williams is a singer and songwriter from County Down in Northern Ireland. Her music is greatly influenced by a jazz, blues and rock, with a hint of the Celtic music of her home. After being classically trained and performing for 5 years with Belfast Philharmonic Society, Eve received a prestigious Arts Council Grant to study voice at Oxenfoord Summer School. Eve then began to perform jazz with Lucy's Jazz Band in the North Coast and Limavady Alternative Jazz Festival. She was also a member of the Symbolics. Eve has also appeared in filmscore and in folk ensembles. She often collaborates with the blues pianist, Darren Matthews. Eve, Darren and band headlined the 'Deep River' concert in Ards Arts Centre in August 2004. Eve is noted for her technical virtuosity and the diversity of material she has performed, being as at home with opera or oratorio as disco, jazz and folk. Her voice spans an impressive range of nearly four octaves, which gives her much melodic scope as a singer-songwriter. She currently teaches voice. Eve's skills as a songwriter are currently displayed in her self-titled EP being sold in aid of Jigsaw Northern Ireland, an organisation founded by Eve's late father to benefit isolated people with disabilities and their carers. Bio

Eve Williams is a singer and songwriter from County Down in Northern Ireland. She has been likened to contemporaries Joanne Hogg and Maire Brennan, but also has a soulful voice and a keen interest in jazz and blues.

Eve’s ‘ever graceful voice’ spans an impressive four octaves, and she is known for the maturity of her technically unusual songwriting. One reviewer commented that her tunes stay in the listener’s head for days (see www.fastfude.com).

In the past Eve has been a classical singer, a member of a folk band and a jazz singer. At present she is mostly influenced by blues and the native music of her Celtic homeland. Sales of her self-titled EP have been encouraging, and she frequently performs in Belfast and beyond. In both 2007 and 2008, she received an honourable mention in the Billboard International Songwriting Contest.

Proceeds from Eve's EP have been going to aid Jigsaw Northern Ireland, an organisation founded by Eve's father who died in November 2005. He himself had an acquired brain injury.
