Bio

In just the past few years Ewan McLennan has burst onto the UK folk and acoustic music scene and established himself as an emerging star, with two critically acclaimed albums and numerous awards to his name already.

His music features captivating renditions of Scottish folk songs that, while remaining true to the tradition Ewan is immersed in, display his unique and contemporary interpretation of the material too. His music has been said to sound simultaneously ancient and modern. In addition to traditional material, Ewan also writes his own award-winning songs, which draw strongly on traditional styles and forms, yet bring intense, emotive and topical storytelling into present day.

His voice, described by BBC Radio 2 as ‘Beautiful, stunning’, fits his material perfectly with its unique and spine-tingling yet weathered-sounding timbre and pathos. His virtuosic guitar playing is an integral part of his music, using unusual tunings and experimental techniques to bring a fresh interpretation to traditional music.

In 2011, in recognition of his debut album, Ewan was awarded the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award. He has since gained numerous other nominations and awards, the most recent being the Spiral Earth Award for Best Male Singer of 2013.

Ewan has just finished filming for the much-loved Transatlantic Sessions, broadcast later this year, for which he was chosen as one of the featured solo artists to perform both his own songs and his traditional Scottish interpretations.

Maverick Magazine have recently said of Ewan, he is 'quite possibly destined to become the UK’s finest folk singer!'.
