Bio

E. WILLIAM, R&B PIONEER BLOOMS IN UTAH
Ernest William Perry Pierce was born July 20, 1979 in Detroit, MI. His father left the family when Ernest was four, causing his mother, Cassandra to struggle to raise three children on her own. There were many occasions when the family lived on the streets, yet Cassandra always found a way to take care of Ernest and his siblings. She always made sure that they had something to eat and some sense of security in their lives. As a result, Ernest learned to work from an early age. He acquired his work ethic from his mother’s example. During this time of struggle, singing in his mother’s choir at a local Baptist church was the only joy and peace that Ernest could find. This was his first exposure to music and it was immediately apparent that young Ernest had a gift for singing. The choir performed throughout many cities and it became obvious to Ernest that he had found his passion in life. Up to this point in his life, the only joy Ernest experienced was when he was performing on stage. It was pretty clear what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. However, times were tough in Detroit and living on the streets was not a life for children. Like pioneers over a century earlier, in 1987, Cassandra packed up her family and moved west to Salt Lake City, Utah.
The family settled in, reestablishing themselves with a local congregation at Faith Temple Pentecostal Church. There they found friends and church members who welcomed them with open arms. Ernest kept singing and started to make a name for himself at church performances with his angelic voice. Audiences were moved by his soulful sounds and were touched by the passion of this young performer.
Ernest found a way to help his family survive and to have a home in Utah. Through the mentoring of a church member and close friend, Adrian Jefferson, at age 15, Ernest started to learn the art of cutting hair in Adrian’s barber shop, Flexx Cuts. With this additional talent, he earned money enabling him to help support his family. Ernest kept his dream of being a singer/songwriter and begun working with local producers and managers to advance his career in music. By developing his voice and sound in the R&B/Neo Soul genre, Ernest obtained opportunities to perform with major entertainers such as Brian McKnight, Ice Cube, Method Man, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Genuine, Rakem, Tech N9ne, Jedi Mind Tricks, Yellow Card, Bothers Ally and Flobots. Ernest has also worked with non-profits organizations to help inspire children to enjoy and appreciate the musical arts. He has performed at numerous fundraising functions to raise money for local charities.
In 2008, Ernest became a business owner when he opened his barber shop, Phat Napps in Salt Lake City. Everyone who visits Phat Napps, is greeted with a smile and the soulful music of E. William. As a result, Ernest quickly developed a loyal clientele and fan base. Whether the music is from one of his personal tracks, or sung live, E. William is constantly making new fans. This has helped him run a successful business while pursuing his love and dreams of becoming a professional artist.
Ernest has had many accomplishments, but he is most proud of his wife Kendra and their three children Jaydin, Izaiah and Kyrie. They are his inspiration and the love of his life. “If it weren’t for my wife and kids, none of this would be worth it.”, Ernest explains.
“I write my songs and sing them with passion and love so that the world can hear my soul tell its story.” – E. William
