"!Upstarter Review"

Excuse The Blood is a Bay area 3-piece outfit with a pretty eclectic mix of sounds. Without trying to pigeon hole them, they sound like a mix of Slapshot-esque hardcore and a reggae/ska/punk blend ala Op Ivy or perhaps Rudiments. Despite the obvious influence the music feels fresh. The tempo keeps a good pace through the five tracks. That the disc is only a demo perhaps is the biggest shortcoming. Since I don’t have more of a sampling I’m going with a 3/5 instead of possibly higher. I’d like to hear more from Excuse The Blood. Until such time that a new release comes out, you can check the band out at their website www.excusetheblood.com

"ThePunkSite.com Review"

Excuse the Blood’s fifteen minute demo takes the listener back to a simpler time, when originality encompassed combining the most basic elements of punk, hardcore, and ska. It would be easy to discredit Excuse the Blood as unoriginal – after all, their music sounds stuck in the past, back to a time when Bad Brains and Operation Ivy combined the first hardcore vocals and upstroke. But when today’s soundscape is so fixated on originality and polished production values, it can be refreshing when something nostalgic arrives.
Excuse the Blood provide just that, an unremarkable but entirely enjoyable five tracks of 80’s style hardcore, easily comparable to legacy bands like Minor Threat and Black Flag. Admittedly, the tracks are longer than those minutes of madness characteristic of the 80’s - most tracks clock in over two or three minutes. Excuse the Blood take advantage of this fact, packing songs like “Destroy You” full of intense solos, and others like “Against the Grain” complete with dense, aggressive introductions. For a band rooted so heavily in 80’s hardcore, there is actually quite a bit going on beneath the surface.
Lyrically the demo is full of politically charged anthems promoting change and condemning government corruption. Songs like “F.T.S.” and “Just Another Day” act as optimistic calls to arms, saying “tomorrow’s not too late/fight the system,” and “revolution is the solution/there’s a place for you and me/our own free society.” Excuse the Blood also employs satirical humour to amplify their message. For example, “Most Dangerous Game” details a “hunter of man,” which is likely an insightful little commentary on modern society’s dehumanization of its citizens.
Excuse the Blood’s debut is an admirable reinterpretation of 80’s hardcore. The recording quality and stylistic influences make it sound as if it could have been released alongside the 80’s hardcore pioneers. I don’t know where the band will go from here as they will no doubt struggle with being branded an 80’s reproduction; but as a demo, Excuse the Blood’s EP suggests that their full-length debut could be a release worth listening for. - ThePunkSite.com

"Punk Globe Review"

Excuse The Blood kicks out this demo at a break neck speed which is unrelenting 'til the end, with nose bleedin' drumbeats, thudding bass, infectious
guitars riffs and chanting vocals.
Excuse The Blood's music is a driving energy fueled with aggression and intensity, their lyrics are ingrained in their punk beliefs and are belted out unapologetically.

"Against the Grain," "F.T.S. (Fight The System)" and "Just Another Day"
are the tunes that really kicked ass for me.
"Tomorrow is not too late if you make it last" - F.T.S.

"No Front Teeth Review"

Hardcore punk from San Francisco featuring members of DEKOIZ and continues in a similar vein -a fast and aggressive blend of early punk and hardcore but EXCUSE THE BLOOD have an added ska/reggae element to their sound at times - but not wimpy, bouncy shit...more of a heavier CLASH style with a touch of LEFTOVER CRACK/CHOKING VICTIM. Their sound almost gets metallic at times but never gets fully there which is a cool place to be because it's nice and heavy and forceful but always stays on the punk side of the fence. This is really intense for a three-piece and this five-track self-released demo is an impressive introduction to this band. I'll definitely keep an eye out for any further releases. - No Front Teeth

Bio

Excuse The Blood is a three piece from San Francisco, California, formed in August 2008.

Bryan – Vocals/Guitar, Adam – Vocals/Bass, and Jonathan – Drums, met while playing in the SF punk outfit Dekoiz, in which over a span of three years they played 100+ shows, recorded two LP's, did two west coast tours with well known bands such as The Vibrators, and often were local support for established touring National and International Punk bands.

Excuse the Blood started with a mission to write songs as a unit, pulling from all their favorite influences. The result is a unique blend of Punk, Hardcore, Reggae, and Ska that cannot be easily categorized. The common thread that runs through all their music is energy, aggression, and songs that keep the listener interested, wondering what will happen next.

Simply put, Excuse the Blood is three good friends hell bent on writing their favorite music and exposing it to as many people as possible. Bryan, Adam, and Jonathan have been able to successfully pool their musical backgrounds and influences together resulting in a band that they are extremely excited about. They know the success of Excuse the Blood depends on their hard work, song writing ability, networking, and energetic live shows.
