Exit 41

BandCountryAmericana

Exit 41 plays tube-driven country music with infectious hooks that keep the audience on their feet and the waitresses busy. An honest and gritty approach to songcrafting prove that this band is the real deal, and they have the musical muscle to back it up.

Biography

From small country bars to huge outdoor festivals, , Exit 41 has been building an extensive fan base one person at a time. This hard-workin' Missouri- based band brings a high energy level to every one of their live shows as well as an intense enthusiasm for traveling to new venues and winning over new fans.

They have been featured on FreshTracksMusic.com and were recently the featured country artist of the month on the Coke website, MyCoke.com. They have performed with country stars like Darryl Worley, and Diamond Rio. This year alone they have shared the stage with Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert, as well as Keni Thomas, Jessi Colter, Billy Joe Shaver, and the entire cast of the Dukes of Hazzard at Dukesfest 2006 in Nashville, TN.

Cooter (Ben Jones) said "I knew you guys were great before I even heard you because I'm a bit superstitious about numbers. I was born in '41 and at Exit 41 in Georgia is a Holiday Inn that was the first place ever that the cast of the Dukes of Hazzard got together to read a script!" Well Cooter found out that the band rocks the house with enough explosive energy to jump the General Lee over the Mississippi River and while still giving a nod to traditional country enough to make ol' Waylon smile somewhere up in honkytonk heaven.

Songwriting and singing duo Jeff Upton and Dave Brooks bring to mind the great harmonies of Buck Owens and Don Rich, yet the music kicks like a Missouri mule. Brooks’ fiery tube-driven guitar playing reminds the listener that country and rock do make a very tasty serving for those that like a little hot sauce thrown on their traditional country breakfast. Upton’s smooth vocal delivery shines as bright as any country star in Nashville. The solid backbeat of drummer Cory Fancher and bass player Tom Upton are the meat and potatoes foundation of the band. When you add a dash of deadly keys from Peter Spero what emerges from this musical omelet is a unique sounding band with enough promise to be successful without falling into the formulaic approach of today’s new country stars. These boys have the substance that real staying power is built on…songs. Both Jeff and Dave bring to the band their carefully crafted versions of life as they have experienced it.

The band is currently heading into the studio in Nashville to produce their first full length album.

Lyrics

North Avenue

Written By: Peter Spero

V1
Sleepin' in a doorway down on North Ave.
Doesn’t want to live there but his choices are few
Didn’t eat last night, and he’s not doing real good
But still I walked on by, tried not to look
V2
Yesterday’s news was his bed for the night,
A bundle of street rags that he held tight
A bottle of whisky that he kept out of site,
Empty eyes from a long wasted life

Chorus
There but for the grace of God go I,
what choice does he have, what choices have I
I should’ve done more than just walk on by,
There but for the grace of God go I,
There but for the grace of God ,go I

V3
Once a mother’s son, once his Daddy’s boy
Once a kid with dreams, once a Christmas with a brand new toy
Hangin' with his Little League friends on a July afternoon
Bet he never dreamed about North Ave.

Chorus
There but for the grace of God go I,
What choice does he have, what choices have I
I should’ve done more than just walk on by,
Cause, there but for the grace of God go I,
There but for the grace of God ,go I

Bridge
I walked up to him and handed him my change
And said something stupid like I’m sorry life’s this way
He turned a crooked smile as he looked up at me
Spoke these words, still haunting me, he said

“There but for the grace of God go I,
What choice to you have, what choices have I
Maybe your the one who won’t just, walk on by,
And there but for the grace of God

Chorus
There but for the grace of God go I,
What choice does he have, what choices have I
I should’ve done more than just walk on by,
Cause, there but for the grace of God go I,
There but for the grace of God ,go I
