Exotic Nucleotic

Exotic Nucleotic offers a brand of electrifying songs that continue the rock n’ roll spirit of The Stooges, The Doors, and The Clash, drawing the audience on an anthemic march to the apocalypse, but not to embrace it,... to defeat it.

It all started in West Palm Beach, Florida when eleven-year old Blake began strumming his older brother’s guitar. “As soon as I learned a few chords and a couple tunes, I was off writing my own songs.” Although his parents lived on the ritzy island, Blake spent most of his childhood west of town in the neighboring ghetto with his “grandmother”/housekeeper. With her strong, Bahamian demeanor, she raised Blake, taking him every Sunday to her all black, Baptist church. Growing up between the racially and class divided worlds heavily influenced the way Blake viewed his environment and would later, influence Exotic’s music.

In his freshman year of high school, Blake met Erik and they immediately hit it off. “I didn’t like him much but when I heard him wailing on the guitar at a party one night, I knew I had to be in a band with him.” Soon after, Blake and Erik recruited neighboring friend, Turken, to play drums, and soon the young rock band, known as Nifkin, gained a loyal following across the South Florida area but upon graduating high school, the band parted ways.

Though the band was apart, each of them pursued their musical aspirations wholeheartedly. Blake continued to write new material, drawing inspiration from his battle with drug addiction. “It was definitely the lowest period of my life...I was searching for myself.” Erik enrolled in the University of Miami music program and spent time touring and recording with several bands including the Mississippi All-stars and Dixie Hustler. “From then on, I knew I wanted to get my hands into every aspect of the recording process.” Turken went on to college as well, and played drums for a touring band, opening for the Beach Boys, Joss Stone, and Blues Traveler.

After more than three years, Blake, Erik, and Turken were finally back home, anxious to make something happen. They began jamming together in December 2005, adding Curtis on bass, and on New Year’s Eve, the newly christened Exotic Nucleotic (from a crazy friend’s suggestion) performed for the first time in front of a room of 250 hometown friends.

“Since the first show, I think we realized we had something and we wanted to see how far we could push it.” The band played shows in South Florida and in late August 2006, the debut EP, Capital A for Agenda will be released, as well as exoticnucleotic.com and the internet rockumentary aptly titled, The Exotic Nucleotic Show. With their EP, Exotic Nucleotic confronts the global and human state of affairs. Whether it’s exposing the illusion of the American dream in “Fleshly Ambition,” begging a lover on a spiritual romance in “Inside The Light,”or depicting modern-day slavery in “Debt Campaign,” Exotic Nucleotic seems to be on a mission beyond music. “We are trying to get people to see things on another level, beyond the tv screens, the paper, the celebrity magazines... beyond what we can see.”
