"CD review: EyeInside's"

Guitarist/singer Daniel Berube and drummer Sylvain Grondin were childhood friends growing up in Edmunston, in northern New Brunswick. Taking their hard rock aspirations to Montreal, they hooked up with Steve Knight (bass) who completed the power trio. Produced by Glen Robinson (Tea Party, Voivod), this is a highly professional indie release.

The album kicks off with a I Mother Earth-type rocker "Don't Bother", which is likely the best song on the album. A good choice to introduce the band to the world. "Time On My Side" is a menacing track, that incorporates a totally creepy guitar and drums mid-section, that may make you want to turn on all the lights. Another stand-out track is "The Gamble", which can venture into Stone Temple Pilots territory, but all the while maintaining a flavour that is EyeInside's own.

"So Sorry" has done well in their hometown on a local radio station there, and with good reason. A modern rock track with the quiet verse/loud chorus, it showcases the band's sense of melody mixed with a chunky guitar and some flourishes here and there. "Dig" is another great track with a Metallica-worthy riff that sticks in the head long after the song has ended. This song has also charted at CFAI-FM. The lyrics here (all songs are written by Berube) are above average, and the positive message is appreciated.

Not all songs are pure heavy rock. "Feed The Fire" is almost a power ballad, but not in the 80s heavy metal sense. It starts off with a quiet brooding before turning into a mid-temp rocker that slows down again before bursting forth. Don't be fooled, this is a love song with bite. The lengthy "Dear Mother" finishes off the album as a slower track that again sounds like something that Metallica may have considered for their self-titled record. This is not surprising, since Berube was once in a Metallica cover band.

All-in-all, EyeInside has created an extremely professional disk with a great thick sound, while still being perfectly mixed, allowing all the instruments to be heard clearly. The only real criticism is the lack of real guitar solos. When there are some, they are much too short, and rarely rise above the rhythm-guitar tracks. "The Gamble" features a good solo on the fade-out, and it left a longing for more of the same. This band deserves to be big. Exposure through extensive touring just might make that happen.

EyeInside have their sights clearly set on their continued rise to global success. On their Debut CD `Come To Me`, EyeInside enlisted the services of world-class producer/engineer Glen ROBINSON (Tori Amos, The Tea Party, Voivod) and veteran mastering engineer Howie WEINBERG (Disturbed, Korn, Staind) of New York's Masterdisk. The result of this collaboration is an album that has yielded four Top 30 radio hits in Eastern Canada (one peaking at #2), garnered online succes from many websites (including "Torn", which was twice chosen as "song of the day" on Garageband.com, and where it is currently sitting at #3 ), and found its way to an evergrowing North American and International fanbase.

EyeInside are currently working towards the release of their second album, while touring parts of Western Canada and the United States; as well, the band has recently been invited to showcase at the MNB Week conference, and are in the finals round of the Cafe d'en Face Battle of The Bands of 2006.

"They write great songs...& possess major potential. Definitely a rising talent."
