Eyes For Gertrude

Eyes For Gertrude are an up-and-coming British, female duo. Infused in their highly original and striking sound is a combination of vast of musical influences, focusing on the balance between evocative and haunting harmonies whilst always maintaining their pop sensibilities.

Hannah and Chantelle started writing together at Dartington College of Arts and went on to spend three months in Canada during 2010. During that time they infiltrated the Toronto music scene and the response to their music was nothing short of explosive. They also took every opportunity to absorb the sounds Canada had to offer which in turn influenced their song-writing.

Hannah and Chantelle were finalists in the 8th Musicians Benevolent Fund Songwriters Awards in London 2012. After completing their Music Degrees in Cornwall they returned to Toronto where they continued to write as Eyes For Gertrude and composed the music for Canadian playwright Tara Goldstein.

Eyes For Gertrude have now completed the recording of their debut album in Vancouver, produced by the internationally renowned Canadian producer Ben Mink. Ben Mink (http://benmink.com/) has worked with and produced countless international artists including Feist and Canadian goddess K.D.Lang. The album has turned out to be something very special, echoing various genres from country to art theatre. Ben Mink's signature strings can be heard throughout the album, resulting in a sound that is at the both timeless and unique.

Eyes for Gertrude are known for putting on an energetic live show that is theatrical and at the same time, raw and authentic. The sound can switch between melancholy and humour without seeming juxtaposed and the pair exude charm onstage.

The album is set to be released this year and Eyes For Gertrude are planning to play at a number of UK summer festivals with a vibrant new band behind them to reproduce the album’s sound.

Eyes For Gertrude have played on the same bill as Serina Ryder, Bastille and Nizlopi.
