ezra furman and the harpoons

High-energy straightahead indie rock with gripping and poetic lyrics, tunes you wake up with the next day, and "a unique personality and a childlike innocence" -- from four seniors at Tufts University, newly recorded on Minty Fresh records (Banging Down the Doors)

Ezra Furman & the Harpoons were formed in 2006 because of Ezra's songs - urgent, desperate, pretty, and explosive - from personal musical sketches to glorious, rollicking pop songs. Ezra Furman & the Harpoons work tirelessly toward capturing the beauty, despair and headlong wildness of life, that too-often overlooked magic and poetry that makes us human. Since their stage debut at Tufts University in February 2006, Ezra Furman and the Harpoons have played in rock clubs in dozens of cities as well as many college venues. In June 2006, they self-released their first album, "Beat Beat Beat", recorded in college dorm rooms at Tufts and engineered by Jahn Sood and Dave Kant from Outtake Records, which is available directly from the band. Late in 2006 the Harpoons signed to Minty Fresh Records, the Chicago indie label, and inJanuary 2007, laid down the tracks for their national debut, with producer Brian Deck (Iron and Wine, Modest Mouse, Josh Ritter). Their CD, "Banging Down the Doors," is available now in stores, online and at live shows. The album has drawn raves in the blogosphere, 5 stars from allmusic.com, 5 stars from Andy Whitman of Paste Magazine. Critics note similarities to Dylan, Violent Femmes, Jonathan Richman & Modern Lovers, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

In addition to their role in the band all of the Harpoons are students at Tufts University. Guitarist Jahn Sood is also a singer-songwriter in his own right, performing in Boston and his home town, Portland, ME. Bassist Job Mukkada is a singer-songwriter as well, but staunchly avoids the limelight because of his citrus allergy. When not keeping time for the Harpoons, drummer Adam Abrutyn manufactures and sells fast-acting valor syrup which is typically drizzled over the temples and groin area. He also enjoys watching pancake wars from aboard his hydraulic space-mobile.
