Bio

One of Iceland´s most critically acclaimed singer songwriters, Fabula has been making waves in her native homeland since 1996, when she released her first solo-album. Born and raised in Reykjavík, Fabula has been active in the folk/jazz scene for the last ten years. She received her education in Dramatic Arts and Jazz Piano in Trondheim and London and her career as a singer and songwriter took off when she moved back to Iceland. Since her return she has released three albums, the latest of which, Dusk, hit the shelves this past October. Twice nominated for the prestigious Icelandic Music Awards, all of Fabula´s albums have met with critical acclaim. Her music does not fall easily into one category, being equally influenced by jazz, folk and contemporary pop. Playful, yet somewhat melancholic she has a distinct sound, that is fragile, warm and full of little details. Fabula plays piano, harmonium and shruti box and appears either alone, in a trio with her guitar and bass player, or with her full band including cello and drums. In addition to her distinct sound, Fabula has also been known for using unusual scenery when she performs; often using old furniture, pictures, videos, and many other different and surprising elements. With her band she has performed widely all over Iceland in Jazz and Folk festivals as well as in private venues. Her band members are; Birkir Rafn Gíslason, a young talented guitarplayer, Jökull Jörgenssen, a melodic bassplayer that plays on an home-made bass, Ingunn Hallgímsdóttir a Canadian-Icelandic celloplayer and Sigtryggur Baldursson (from the Sugar-cubes) on drums, one of Iceland’s most known musicians. www.myspace.com/fabulaband
