"Minneapolis Pours Purple Rain!"

"May 27th being a Saturday had the weekend crowd warmed up with Hall Effect who were an American head trip, while Dr.Sinn had a different vision. Embers of a Saint were heard like peroxide through the room, and Facing the Plastic played a song titled "Fire Power" that brought the audience to the stage. Undone ended their set with "Mary Jane" that brought this evening to an end."

"‘We’re not glam rock’"

Facing the Plastic is a do-it-yourself band that got its start somewhere between East Bethel and Anoka, Minn.
Based out of the Minneapolis area, with fans from around the world, the band’s three members are: Sean Folstad as guitarist and vocalist, Jay Jorgenson on drums, and Michael Erickson on the bass.
The name “Facing the Plastic” has its own meaning for each one of the members.
“The name, to me, is a term of self-realization,” Erickson said. “It’s a turning point of empowerment to feed you fuel to break through life’s cheap illusion. Facing the Plastic is seeing past it all. I’m not sure what the term means to the other two.”
The band played their first show at a battle of the bands at the Anoka Ramsey Community College located in Coon Rapids, Minn. The band originally had a fourth member,
Bobby Marko, who was unable to make the show.
“We were only comfortable playing with a second guitarist and vocalist,” said Erickson.
Having one less member made the band extremely nervous.
“I distinctly remember looking
over at Sean as he was stepping
on his distortion pedal,” Erickson said. “It looked like his foot was having a seizure. I can only imagine how I must have looked!”
“We played a few shows together as a foursome and even travelled out to play a music festival in Dickinson, N.D.,” he said. “Bobby left the band to focus more on his own works. To this day, we still keep in contact with him. I believe he’s going to be developing
our Web site.”
“When we first began, we were really just getting the feel for who we were as musicians
and what we wanted to with our music as creators. We started to mold ourselves and shape our music into something that was workable,
interesting, and enjoyable.
[Now] we’ve got a pretty decent range of sound within our music,” Erickson said.
The band described their approach as a mix between garage and indie rock with a little bit of blues, punk, jazz, swing and metal. - The Advocate

"Facing the Plastic Rocks Out!"

In a recent article, Jonas A. Carpem writes:
"Facing The Plastic, a well respected...Minneapolis-based punk band, has now released their plans for the new year...
Mike...stated in a recent conversation with an obsessed fan that, '...we have obtained Fire Power, but we are still looking and currently amidst a strong pursuit of The Holy Rock Grail.'
This Holy Rock Grail that Mike is talking about has been seen with various Rock artists for centuries and falls way back to Rock's existence alltogether. Before the Holy Rock Grail, there was nothing but sand and unformed dirt, not to mention, the idea of Holy didn't even exist.
'Without the Holy Rock Grail, rock is going to keep going into a downward slope, until we all fall victim to a mindless corporate plan, making music for money and using computer calculations for the next big song title. A song that will inevitably be forgotten within 20 minutes after you buy the cd and listen to the single song you wanted to hear on the cd and realize every other song is worthless,' Mike continued..." - The UnNews

Facing the Plastic will never refer to themselves as the current trend in music "on crack." Formed north of Minneapolis in 2005, this band doesn't fit neatly into just one genre.
