"A Verdadeira Voz do Fado"

In a interview for a portuguese newspaper, Carlos do Carmo, the biggest male fado singer alive said about Fado em Si Bemol.

You said recently that times change and the approach to fado must change…

This has much to see with the temperament of the people. I always heard that the Art is not static and is linked with the beat of life. We live in the Internet era with a youth that uses the technology to hear music. The Fado calms but it has that to receive the influence from these people who want other things.
I permormed with Ivan Lins in Jazz’n’Gaia festival and I heard this group `Fado em Si Bemol ' that changed completely the structure of Fado. It has percussion and doublebass, and the singer even dances while singing. It’s a really interesting thing! If you speak with one of those `troglodytic' of Fado, who thinks he’s one of the illuminated lighthouses, he’s going to say that is horrible. If it was like that, Paco de Lucia and Astor Piazzolla would never appeared and we were still singing the tangos of Gardel and old fashion flamenco. The things have to evolve and so traditional song needs to be worked.

Bio

Six musicians with very distinct formation and experience join this project looking forward to find the conducting wire between Portuguese Fado and other music styles.
With an informal and unpretentious form, the characteristic formalisms of the different genres are dissolved and doors are open to a loose and cool fusion of musical languages with the magical touch of a Portuguese Guitar.
From Fado to Bossa Nova, through Jazz, Morna or Ragtime all the world combined…
