"Nominated for Musician of the Year"

Nominated for Musician of the Year for 2012 - Raw Artists

"Secrets of the City: Fairfax, AK"

"Straight out of a Frogtown attic and with complimentary comparisons by critics such as “Radiohead and Wilco inspired,” Fairfax, AK is still—quite wonderfully—unique in its ability to get you to tap your foot to its warm acoustic sound." - Secrets of the City

"Fairfax, AK at Midwest Music Fest"

"Fairfax, AK performed foot-stomping tunes to a crowd at the Winona Arts Center at Mid West Music Fest. Their Radiohead and Wilco inspired tunes bring jump-out-of-your-shoes folk sounds." - Amber Grace - Winona 360

"Fairfax, AK's "Just Fine" video"

Fairfax, AK's way of illustrating the hard work in not just crafting intricate and personal music but that the labor of love carries over into all aspects of their music and how you get to see and hear it. The song, "Just Fine" starts and moves on with a plodding rhythm and melody that eventually errupts into an enveloping Arcade Fire-like sing-along, one of the more heartwarming ingredients in the band's songs on their new disc. - City Pages

"Love Stories and Picture Shows"

"Please listen to Fairfax, AK. These guys were the perfect cure to a bloggers dry spell... Opening with the kind of chords that tell you to shut up, stop whinging and close your eyes. You can stop thinking about the future, ex-girlfriends or some bullshit that pissed if you off this morning, there’s no point. And then it gets louder and you can open your eyes and properly snap out what ever is bugging you." - Marcus
- A Pocket Full of Seeds (UK)

"Fairfax, AK Debut Love Stories & Picture Shows"

"Love Stories & Picture Shows is an acoustic rock showcase that is parts Ryan Adams and parts Manchester Orchestra with quiet valleys that swell up to grab your attention. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen next, the songs on Love Stories & Picture Shows take you in another direction completely." - Niki Becker - MPLSMusic.com

"Fairfax, AK CD Release 1/20 at the Nomad Pub."

"This newly formed indie folk band, who have started turning some heads with their energetic live shows are now releasing their debut album Love Stories and Picture Shows... great songs" - Rich Horton - Rift Magazine

"Introducing Fairfax, AK"

"Their new ten-song LP, Love Stories and Picture Shows, is soft around the edges and easy to melt into in the late hours of the night... pleasantly placid" - Josh Keller - Reviler

"Feature: Fairfax, AK"

"Love Stories and Picture Shows is a sweet, cohesive collection of tunes that owe as much to the singer-songwriters of the mid-90s as the folky 60s and punk 70s. It’s a record that slips in an surprises you, like a polished up, lyrically focused take on Spirits of the Red City, or a Hootenanny with an orchestral band." - Carl Swanson - Cake in 15

"Pick six: A half-dozen cool things in Music"

"This Minneapolis group has made an album with great songwriting and great use of dynamics, especially on 'Invisible Monsters.'" -Dan Heier - Star Tribune

"Review of Love Stories and Picture Shows"

”Music with an emotion charge. Sometimes quiet and controlled. Other times explosively with a complex process, but always very intense.” -Johan Schoenmakers - AltCountry Forum of the Netherlands

"Artist to Watch"

“If there is an artist who can take the ideals of punk, mix in the free styles of jazz, and create songs in a folk setting, Mr. Dougherty can do it ten fold.” - Rodger Boyd - Rush Lake Records

"Live Review"

"Starts off folk and ends up punk, sometimes in the same song" - Brian Corner of the Cedar Cultural Center

"Live Review"

"That might have been the loudest folk act I have ever heard." - Stephen McClellan

"On the Record: Love Stories and Picture Shows"

Biography
"That might have been the loudest folk act I have ever heard." - Steve Mcclellan of First Avenue.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Pat Dougherty began writing songs in a borrowed storage closet. Tinkering with only a used drum set and an old organ he would periodically emerge to share the works in progress with a handful of close friends that would later become Fairfax, AK.

After spending the summer performing around the Midwest, the group retreated to the attic of a worn yellow house in Frogtown and began crafting their upcoming debut album, Love Stories and Picture Shows.
