Five good looking boys making great music. What more can a girl ask for?
The other day I was able to meet with Tommy Bartholetti and Matt Jones of the high school band Fairview Turnaround. Fans of "The Morning Benders, The Strokes, and the Arctic Monkeys" would enjoy this band. With their amiable personalities and quirky sense of humor, the boys talked to me about their indie-alternative band.
Fairview Turnaround consists of Joe Kaufman (vocals, guitar, ukelele), Gordon Dean (bass), Tommy Bartholetti (keyboards and vocals), Matt Jones (Lead guitar), and Steven Toyama, (drums and percussion). Kaufman, Jones, and Bartholetti currently attend La Canada High, while Dean and Toyama attend La Salle High School in Pasadena. Ever since December of last year, the band has striven to produce original, catchy songs and to "get their music out there." To produce their music, the boys take a casual yet systematic approach. "One of us comes up with a chord progression, and we all jam with it and figure out parts to play. Then Joe and Tommy come up with the lyrics," said Matt Jones. Matt and Tommy's favorite original work is "The Fire In His Eyes," because it incorporates a unique ukelele part and showcases all of the band's talent. This single is currently being recorded and will be featured in their future album. Fairview Turnaround has incredible talent and potential, and they hope it will carry them far in the music industry and business.

Formed in the past year between 5 La Canada/Pasadena students, Fairview Turnaround has been increasing their interest and fan-base. Playing shows in Pasadena and Hollywood, the quintet has been gaining a following with their original songs and unique take on covers. After recording their latest demo of all originals, the band is showing newfound strength in their writing and original ideas. Members include: Matt Jones on Lead Guitar and Vocals, Tommy Bartholetti on Keyboards, Vocals, Ukelele, and Percussion, Steven Toyama on Drums and Percussion, Gordon Dean on Bass and Vocals, and Joe Kaufman on Guitar, Lead Vocals, Ukelele, Trumpet, and Percussion.
