"Top 11 Local Bands You've Never Seen"

One of the only local indie rock bands that have genuinely impressed me, and that’s saying a lot, considering I feel the genre died in 2003. Imagine a cross between American Football and Explosions in the Sky that isn’t afraid to rock. I lose myself in them at times. - CityBeat Magazine

Bio

Fake Hands is a composite ensemble indie-rock back, hailing from Cincinnati, OH/Covington, KY.
We mix instrumental "post-rock" with elements of traditional pop, often using horn sections and additional percussion as lining.
A "do it yourself" attitude has successfully led us to travel the Midwest and East coast playing multiple weekend tours and a 16 date tour in summer of 2010. In addition to dates outside of Cincinnati, we have frequented the best live music spots in town such as Northside Tavern, Southgate House, Mayday, MOTR and The Comet.
In addition to two self-recorded demos ("Where the Trouble Begins" & "Skeleton Songs"), we entered The Monastery Studio with Chad Whalbrink, who worked with Pomegranates, Enlou, Sacred Spirits and more, in March 2011 to record five songs which would become "Here We Are After Dark."
We are not only influenced by other bands, but also life events, current world news, and each other. Moments in life influence art and we are a great example of that. We have our own way of expressing ourselves through songs. We get along with each other and that is why Fake Hands has been active for four years now. As far as bands go, Braid, Detachment Kit, Desert City Soundtrack, Anathallo, Chris Staples, Colour Revolt, and The Movielife are just some of what has influenced what we do.
We are, but not limited to, (alphabetically) Stephen Auge', Joshua Chambers, Josh Furnish, and Ryan Hickman. We are always evolving, currently blending the instrumental style we started with in 2009, with vocals which are featured in our newer songs. Fake Hands is a versatile band, able to stretch across genres and fit on multiple show line-ups. Whether it's a basement, venue, living room, or bar, we're able to adapt and bring energy to our set. We believe that sets us apart from other bands.
Overall, this band has grown so much since we last applied for Midpoint in 2010. We are ready to expand our audience and showcase our talent in 2012.
