"Very Funky Indeed"

Falling Stickmen, (fallingstickmen.com). Very funky indeed — and don’t you forget it. The leadoff track “Freakshow” exemplifies the band’s sound, a hybrid of funk, jazz and experimental jam band ideas. All four members sing lead vocals on at least one song, which is always cool if a band can pull it off. There are lots of wacky, spastic sounds throughout the album, like a laser-sounding keyboard on “Wrong” or the handful of wah-wah-pedal-twisted guitar solos that lead player Adam Rubin favors. The energy level is consistently high, and the dance-a-bility of it would make this band a good fit for festivals, especially early afternoon before crowd fatigue has set in. There’s always something a little offbeat and unexpected going on that keeps the musical landscape somewhat alien and gives the band a sound to call its own, which is no small feat in and of itself. -Mike Sembos

Bio

In the beginning, there was nothing. Then came the dinosaurs, Connecticut, and six-string electric bass guitars. The people were pleased, but an emptiness remained. The people yearned for an unrelenting groove rock band to funk their minds, sizzle their souls, and lay waste to an era of stale licks. In the 7th month of the 7th year of the new century, Creation smiled, and the Four Stickmen of the Funkalypse, perched atop their woolly steeds, descended from on high... The Falling Stickmen. Once assembled, The Falling Stickmen quickly drew attention with their original arrangements, blazing solos, infectious jams, and tight musicianship. Able musicians with diverse backgrounds and far-flung musical tastes, the Falling Stickmen have developed a unique, groovy sound that is hard to categorize and harder to turn down. The four recorded their first "live" demo cd in December 2007 and are spreading the funk with regional gigs in 2010 and beyond. Rock on people! Rock on!
