"Who Is Family Thief?"

Nashville native, Malcolm Williams uses acoustic project, Family Thief to build his own family and connect with fans. The 26 year old has been into the music scene for quite a while citing Usher’s self titled record as the gateway in which he learned to love music.
“It opened the door for love songs. I had a tape deck with this cd and played the hell of it,” Williams said.

Williams started out wanting to sing his poems that he’d written but did not have the courage for it. It wasn’t until he sat in on a friends band practice that he really pursued his dream.
“I was able to build the guts to try it myself,” Williams said. “ [Singing] helped me tell my story.”
Williams grew up in a military town and worked with the military for sometime which helped him developed a respect for the men and women that serve our country.
“I witness a lot their hardship and couldn’t respect them more. I don’t know how they do it,” Williams said.
In 2013 Williams started doing shows under the name Family Thief. Williams family has always been small with only him and his mother being in the picture. Family Thief is a mean to grow his family one person at a time.
“Playing shows was a way of spreading my family, “ Williams says. “Everyone I meet at a show is just another friend who I want to become apart of my ever-growing family.”
Williams had been doing shows for a while with no real movement in the exposure category but in November of 2013, his luck changed when Pure Noise chose him to do a split with Forever Came Calling,
“Not saying I’m a household name or anything now but the split made it easier for people to get ahold of my music. I’m truly thankful for Jake Round, Pure Noise, and Forever Came Calling.”
Fast forward a year and a half and now Malcolm has officially released his first record titled King Of The Floor.
“This record is about descending to a real dark place in your own mind and coming out the other end alive.” Malcolm said, “This record is about being young and scared, finding God in the weirdest places, its about falling in love and falling out of it, and loving the whole process. This record is about summer vacations you wish you could live, its about being alone and learning to deal, its about life.”
With this release Malcolm hopes to obtain more exposure that way more people can find his music and maybe identify with it and with Family Thief.
“ I want to reach someones heart. To cause a spark in someone the same way I felt when I saw my first live show or first time listen to boys night out’s train wreck, from front to back.” Williams said. - The LP Collective
