The best kept secret in music

"Choice of the week"

"Family Butchers are a band that we'll be surely be hearing from in the near future. As the music compresses and decompresses, the energy hits your face. We’re obviously excited, as this band keeps getting better and better." - Time-Out Tel-Aviv 12/09/04

"Double spread article about Family Butchers"

"From this pluralized background, the Family Butchers have arrived a kind of dark and scratchy post-garage sound that will be relevant for those whose musical diet combines Jello Biafra, Polvo or the spiritual godfathers of post rock-- Slint. But it would also certainly appeal to those of you that don't swim in the deep underwater of the tough American indie music scene. To make a long story short: if sharp, screaming guitars, roaring bass and tight, aggressive drums is your cup of tea, you will be most satisfied by the Family Butchers."

- Hayeer Tel-Aviv (The bigest weekly newspaper of Tel- Aviv)

"Show review"

"The Butchers are probably the most talented musicians that exist in the Israeli alternative scene. They are pointing out to be the best indie group in the area." - Time Tel- Aviv 04/08/2005

Bio

Family Butchers are comprised of three well-known musicians – each from a very different field:
- Assaf Tager (vocals, guitar) is a Royal Academy graduate trained in classical music and has played with the late Elliot Smith and Beth Gibbons.
- Haggai Fershtman (drums) is a legendary musician who has played on many projects including the upcoming John Zorn release on his label, Tzadik.
- Uri Frost (bass), tinkers with madness and is known as an interdisciplinary artist. He was once a member of one of the most successful Israeli rock bands (Carmela Gross & Wagner).
Tager writes “urban snapshots” and together they create the music.

I think we have a very unique sound that combines our complicated Israeli realities with our different musical perspectives.

BTW- We are coming to New York (from September to December) to record with Wharton Tiers, and also to say hi to our friend, former CMJ-er, Todd Shalom (who says hi to Chris White).
