"Leeds List Introduces... Famous Villains"

So you’re heading to Clarence Festival 2013, and want to discover more new and up-coming acts to tickle your ear drums? You could do worse than grab a beer, get to the foot of the stage, and feast on a belly full of genre-bending electro-indie with Vienna Ditto or The Darlingtons. In the second part of our Leeds-List Introduces, we look at the acts that are heading up from all corners of the UK to play the festival.

Doncaster is having a rebirth on the musical map. Famous Villains, could be part of a Doncastser Renaissance, or more likely, their music will be the ticket out of there for the band.Signing a record deal, and having generous airplay across Radio2, the band found themselves on the cusp of success. A series of most unfortunate events, legal wrangling, poor management and crippling debts, haven’t left the band with any less wind in their sales.Famous Villains’ brand of Folk/Rock, is as infectious as their own enthusiasm. They are serious about their music, but everything else is merely a road to distraction. They have reversed back up the road from tragedy, and are a stronger and tighter outfit for it.A local band, backed by an American Grammy Award producer. How many of the bands on the bill can boast that? We salute you!More information on the festival from Wakefield Music Collective. Bio

As heard on BBC Introducing, Sine FM and Emmerdale, Famous Villains are a five piece rock band from Doncaster.

After touring with the Pigeon Detectives, receiving national airtime on BBC Radio 2 and signing their first record deal it seemed as if everything was about to happen for a few members of Famous Villains. Then suddenly while en route to the US to record their debut with legendary producer Bob Clearmountain, they found themselves stranded at Heathrow airport. With neither money nor jobs to return to, their manager had deserted them amassing a trail of debt in their name. With a tarnished reputation, it seems Famous Villains was an obvious choice of name.

In 2012, surviving band members Anthony Lindley (lead vocal/ rhythm guitar) and Chris Autey (drums) got together with old school friend Neil Smith (lead guitar), classically trained Tobin James (keys) and Jarrad Kirk (bass). Famous Villains have been touring ever since and 2013 has already seen them tour across Northern England and Italy, selling out venues the likes of The Leopard in Doncaster.

Catch them playing their energetic and harmony-laden soulful rock across the country during the coming months!
