Bio

Rober Pešut (01.12.1965) alias Magnifico, a Ljubljana-born artist, acquired his first music experience as a member of the band Uredu, with which he published two albums in the 1990's: 'Goli' (Naked, '89) and 'Let's dance' ('91). His solo debut with the telling title 'Od srca do srca' (From Heart to Heart, '93) provided the hit '24.000 poljubov' (24,000 Kisses) and the ethno spirit of the Slovenian folk song 'Zeleni Jure' (The Green George). Two years later the socially critical album 'Čefur' (meaning a typical Slovenian insult for people from the Balkans, '95) was published, encouraging action against intolerance and chauvinism. The ensuing two-year break resulted in his fourth project, representing a new dimension of his creativity as he performed for the first time as an actor and composer of music for the feature film 'Stereotip' (Stereotype, '97) by Damjan Kozole. A year later his fifth album 'Sexy boy' ('98) was published only to reinforce his position among the original and unique musicians of here and now. 'Silvija', the song that he presented at the Slovenian selection for the European Song Contest, turned into one of the biggest hits in Slovenian music ever, whereas the song 'Halo gospodična' (Hello Miss), the chorus of which goes 'Magnifico is queer' alluding to homophobia among the Slovenians, has broken another taboo with the insult word 'peder' (queer) becoming a new mantra of audiences of all ages, sexes and orientations. At the turn of the century he joined all the hits of the previous decade into one project, publishing them as »the best of« album 'Komplet' (The Set, 2000). In 2002 he assumed a yet another role. As the author and producer of the 'Sestre' (the Sisters) trio, who won the European Song Contest preselection, he won sympathies of both domestic and foreign audiences. However, he achieved the major breakthrough on foreign markets with his album 'Export Import' (2004) comprising a mixture of music genres from pop, electro to Mexican and Balkan rhythms, which ruled the charts around Europe. The song 'Hir aj kam hir aj go' impressed even the fashion giant and his namesake Roberto Cavalli, who used the hit as the lead theme of his new collection. Magnifico is also dedicated to aesthetics as his music quality is accompanied by his refined taste in outward appearance. Each of his projects is upgraded by a unique style of clothing, which has rendered him a rare Slovenian trendsetter. According to music critics, his most accomplished product so far was published this year, the album 'Grande finale' (2008). The first hit from the album (an adaptation of the legendary House Of The Rising Sun), the 'Land of Champions', has again been winning music connoisseurs around the world.
He is also a film enthusiast, especially for adult films, which he collects and admires, as well as feature films, having performed in them three times himself, thus contributing to their success. He had the main part of a wacko painter in 'Stereotip' (97), a Serbian Mafia guy in 'Porno film' (2000) and an angry poker player in 'Poker' (2001).
It could be said that his artistic creativity, his music and the way it is presented to the audience always hit the core of taboos and social problems, which based on sophisticated self-irony and quality he considers a constituent part of popular culture, and that is absolutely fabulous or simply Magnifico.
