Bio

Fanny Lumsden is ‘a breath of fresh country air’ according to Rolling Stone Magazine and has been coined ‘Australia’s answer to Americana’ by Rhythms Magazine. Her brand new debut record Small Town Big Shot came in at #6 on the Country ARIA Chart, #15 on the AIR Chart and has gained critical acclaim all over, it’s no wonder ‘I love Fanny’ are the words on everyone’s lips. With the first two singles from the album, Soapboxand Land of Gold both reaching #1 on the Country Music Channel, a nomination for CMC New OZ Artist of the Year, a sold out Country Halls Tour and raving  4 star reviews, the Western NSW raised Fanny Lumsden has been hailed by The Australian as; ‘a rising singer songwriter turning heads’.

Crowd-funded, independently released and produced by ARIA/Golden Guitar winning producer Matt Fell, Fanny’s debut album Small Town Big Shot ‘traverses a stunning array of styles with utmost confidence – an impressive feat for an artist on debut’ (Country Update). Featuring her band the Thrillseekers (Dan Stanley Freeman, Benjamin Corbett and Preston Peachey) plus some highly respected guests including Dan Dougmore on Pedal Steel, Luke Moller on Fiddle and Gabby Huber and Tom Lumsden on Backing Vocals, the album is an individual celebration of regional life ‘sweeping us up in the spectacular energy and beauty that comes with living on the land’ (AU Review). With her own playful take on Australian Alt-Country and with a cracking band, The Thrillseekers in tow, Fanny has covered a lot of ground, selling out shows everywhere from inner city bars, backyards and their self-produced Annual Country Halls Tour through regional NSW and most recently traversing over 28,000km of Australia playing in backyards from Tasmania to Broome. Having played with the likes of Sara Storer, Henry Wagons, The Mcclymonts, Marlon Williams, Adam Harvey and loads more, it’s no surprise they were nominated for Best Live Roots Act of the Year by AU Review in 2015.

They have featured at festivals including Sydney Festival, Darwin Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Man From Snowy River Bush Festival, Urban Country Music Festival, showcased at BIGSOUND 2015 and most recently had a hugely successful debut appearance at the Gympie Muster.

The live show is an insight into the ‘gentle rhythms of regional Australia’ presenting it the ‘way it is rather than the way it was’ (Rolling Stone) and what’s more, it is exciting, inclusive and downright fun. Featuring Totem tennis matches, hills hoists and an overall ‘hell of a time’

Fanny is, as Chris Familton put it, ‘a born entertainer with a voice that swings between pop, soul and country and by surrounding herself with fine musicians (The Thrillseekers) she’s never failed to leave an imprint on an audience by way of her personality and performance.’

It’s cracking alt country with a whole lot of heart.

“Small Town Big Shot is an accomplished album that deserves to be recognised in Tamworth and Newtown (and on the world stage) for its accessible, strong and honest songwriting.” — Post to Wire
