""Far From Proper - Rock Bottom" Review by Dom"

Far From Proper is a pop-punk band from Poughkeepsie, NY comprised of band members Nick Harrison, Matt O'Rourke, Angelo Estrada, Tyler Muller and Jesse Walsh. This EP is the band's second EP following 2010's Talk All You Want. If you're familiar with pop-punk then this band does not stray too far from the overall sound. While not a very original EP it's definitely a worthy album to own and listen to. This band can compete with pop-punk heavyweights.

1. Runaround - A pretty fantastic opener with some deep lyrics about the loss of someone close.

2. Fight or Flight (featuring Jesse Vadala of With the Punches) - This has become one of my favorite songs from this album. This song picks up the pace a bit and Jesse's guest vocals are a great addition to the song.

3. Oak Grove - Another quality song by the band, more or less a typical pop-punk song but it's a great song never the less.

4. Kratzen Jammer - Surprisingly I like this song a lot, a quick 44 seconds and the punk gets put back in pop-punk.

5. Rock Bottom - The title track, a lot rides on a title track, this one pulls it out and becomes my favorite track on the album. The lyrics shine on this one and I think they speak to anyone and everyone.

6. Save a Seat - A slower song, I'm not sure what it is about this song but I can't get into it. It's got good lyrics but overall I think it would've been a better track had it been acoustic.

7. Killadelphia - Final track on this short EP, it ends the album on an upbeat note and it's a good song, what more could you ask for?

Overall - For a local band the production on this EP is amazing, it's crisp and clear but somehow retains a type of rawness which works in the band's favor. Definitely pick up this EP, also if you get the chance see the band live, the live show is amazing and incredibly fun.

"Albums of the Year"

Far From Proper - Rock Bottom EP
Far From Proper put forth a respectable amount of growth on this EP, compared to their previous releases. The lyrics are very personal, which reveal an intimate and vulnerable side to the band that shows a great deal of substance and not the conventional subjects you might expect. The calibre of the musicianship is in a category of its own. Top-notch Punk Rock. - Easycore.com

"Far From Proper"

How did you meet the other members of Far From Proper and was there a factor that drew you guys to be friends?
Well I met Jesse, the drummer, sophmore year of high school and we both thought it would be cool to play the school battle of the bands, so we threw something together real quick. Jesse knew that Angelo played guitar, but neither of us really knew him well. We picked up a bassist we met online, and then asked a girl we knew to sing for us. Not long after that I got a call from my old friend Nick I knew through a summer drama camp and he asked if we needed a front man. So I told him to come try out and we knew right after his audition that he was in. Then we picked up a new bassist Tyler who which I knew from the same summer camp.
Who were your biggest inspirations musically? How have they influenced you in your musical journey?
My biggest inspirations musically are, Adam Young, Dallas Green, Hit The Lights, Oceano, and The Ghost Inside. I have an extremely eclectic love for music. As a band I think our biggest influences are Four Year Strong, Hit the Lights, Paramore, The Years Gone By, Set Your Goals, New Found Glory, and Veara.
What do you think is the biggest obstacle for artists today that may not have been a problem a few years prior? Do you even think there is one?
I think the biggest obstacles for bands today is that the industry has become all about trends instead of uniqueness. It’s hard for bands to have a creative and original sound today because it’s all about fame now.
So in the past years the internet has been a huge factor and parts of bands and their way of spreading their music. In what way would you say the internet has helped Far From Proper?
Oh yes definitely. I mean, myspace isn't’ as popular as it used to be, that’s for sure. But having access to things like Facebook, Twitter, and Purevolume, it’s helped so much in getting us noticed.
What would you say Far From Proper's writing style is like? Would you describe it as collaborative or not? Yes our writing is for the most part collaborative. One of the guitarist, either myself or Angelo will bring a small riff to the table, and then we all just build onto it.
Do you and your band members get into a lot of arguments about the style of music or how the lyrics or music should go while
writing? Do you have a story or an example? Hahahahahaha, well not really, we don’t fight about song writing really. We just fight about other dumb shit in general.
What has been your favourite song to write and record so far? I think for me my favorite song to write and record was Cloud Nine. Everything just blends perfectly in that song. We had a lot of fun writing it.
Have you been able to try any new instruments while writing and recording, or to learn something new on your instrument (like a new guitar or drum technique, etc.)? What was it? I learned some new finger techniques on the guitar, and I’ve also picked up the drums pretty well.
What should we expect from Far From Proper in the future? I think everyone should keep us in the back of their mind and give us a chance. We’re making a lot of big moves right now that in the long run will benefit us greatly. Hopefully if everything goes as planned you’ll be seeing a lot more of us! - Stitched Sound Magazine

"Hometown Heroes"

After watching their friends in We Are The In Crowd make it out of Poughkeepsie, New York, pop-punk quintet Far From Proper assembled to play some covers for a high school talent show. Things took off soon after when they were offered a gig at the local venue. "We're a different breed of pop-punk," says guitarist Matty O'Rourke. "It's always on the edge, fast and fun." - Alternative Press Magazine

Bio

We started writing and playing music together in February of 2008 and soon after were offered our first local show. Since then we started working non stop to continue playing, record EP’s and singles, play out of state, and develop a fan base. Our goal from the start has to play honest music with a positive outlook, and never losing sight of keeping our music original. We’ve been playing and recording for 5 years now and began touring last year. Today we stand with 4 tours on our belt done in under a year, hoping to continue our mission of playing honest music to whoever wants to listen.
