Bio

Fat Jimmy Couch was brought to life in the summer of 1996 when old friends Terry McNamara (Guitar / Vocals), Trey Peters (Guitar), Andy Wachter (Bass / Vocals), and Scott Dey (Percussion) came together and gave birth to a blend of improvisational blues, rock, and funk music. The grooves and jams they created made those who heard them want to dance and have a good time. Unfortunately, at the end of that summer of invention the four went their separate ways.

In 1998, however, the fates smiled upon them again and FJC reunited to produce their eponymous debut album. "Fat Jimmy Couch" was nine tracks of brand new music the likes of which the world has never heard. They also played gigs at Susquehanna University and University of Maryland College Park. In the fall of 1999 Fat Jimmy Couch won Susquehanna University’s Battle of the Bands and in the spring of 2000 they headlined SU’s Spring Weekend 2000. Reinvigorated, they focused their attention on writing new music and playing more gigs.

Fat Jimmy Couch made their live debut in the Baltimore area at The Recher Theatre in Towson. The show was a success and the band went on to play many other Baltimore area venues such as The Vault, Wyatt’s Saloon, and Fells Point Café. In August of 2001 the group began recording 12 new original tracks that turned into their latest album, “Johnny Rockstar”. Released in January 2003, “Johnny Rockstar” shows their love of extended jams and overwhelming joy of making music.

Besides performing roughly 25 originally composed songs, the band also uses its own unique style to interpret artists such as the Grateful Dead, The Police, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix to name a few. The band is continually expanding their library of both covers and originals. Fat Jimmy Couch will be returning to the studio this coming summer and continues to create the music that makes them so unique.
