""Akin to early Times New Viking but sounding like a really pissed off No Age""

"This 2 piece are my current pick of the bunch. 'Mess' really is a mess, it's noisy, trashy, loud, tinny.. akin to early Times New Viking but sounding like a really pissed off No Age. It's very Lo-fi. Good stuff. I love lo-fi. Just played a show with Sic Alps in London for Upset The Rhythm." - Verbal Rocket

""Bursts of sonic energy""

"Local shouty lo-fi punk duo Fawn Spots impressed me a couple of weeks back, and so I was more than happy to watch them again as the warm-up for tonight’s shouty lo-fi visitors from out of town. Judging by the support they’d brought with them, I wasn’t alone. During a suitably chaotic set which saw not one, but two bottom ‘E’ strings snap before the guitarist from Dignan Porch bravely offered up his guitar, they managed to blast through their paired-down bursts of sonic energy to emerge somewhat battered but nevertheless triumphant." - Whisperin and Hollerin

""Energetic live shows...noisy, raucous fun!""

"Fawn Spots are loud. And when I say loud, I mean LOUD. Don’t believe me? Have a little look down there. You see that waveform? Best be careful with those headphones – or maybe just hook your laptop up to some speakers and blast it out properly. It’s probably the only way to do these six thrashed-out tracks justice, after all.

Fawn Spots are Jonathan Meager (Guitar/Vocals) and Lee Bowden (Drums/Vocals), and their manifesto might (at first glance) seem to be perfectly encapsulated by ‘Broken’s howl of “IIIII DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M DOING!” But, much akin to bands like Times New Viking and No Age, there’s a vein of pop nous running through their distorted, lo-fi power-punk. Their self-recorded debut EP Mess isn’t just lo-fi for the sake of being lo-fi – it’s an honest, warts-and-all representation of where the band are at right now, and is all the more charming for it. You can expect pretty much the same thing from their energetic live shows, which have seen them support the aforementioned Times New Viking, Nodzzz, and – somewhat incongruously – The Vaccines. In keeping with their DIY sound, the band have home-made CDs and cassettes(!) of Mess on offer, or you can just download the whole thing for free at their Soundcloud page - or, y’know, using the player above. And if you like your music raucous, noisy and fun, I suggest you do just that." - Let's Get Cynical

""Ooze personality and originality""

This is a review of our very first gig, after we'd been playing for six weeks!

"First though it’s gifted to Fawn Spots to open proceedings. As a first gig for a band with 23 fans on Facebook, it’s fair to say this is a big deal. Whilst obviously raw, the two students from York have heads turning at the bar, as they launch into a half hour set of grungey, garage rock, with a Sonic Youth-esque industrial feel. Brooding, angry guitars over an unrelenting Blood Red Shoes drum base, this a passionate hark back to the late 80's, in the best possible way. It is very early days, but Fawn Spots are not following the typical protocols to popularity; they ooze personality and originality, make mistakes, and seem to enjoy what they’re doing. They need to hone their sound, but they’re going the right way to at least gain a few more Facebook fans." - Crack in the Road

Bio

Jonathan could / can barely play guitar and Lee had never played drums before, but starting at band seemed like a good idea.

6 weeks after forming Fawn Spots had their first show. It was a mess.

Their debut, self-recorded EP is named 'Mess' in tribute to this period, and the songs that were written as a result of being neither tight, nor competent.

Fawn Spots' focus has always been on a hyperactive live performance, with music that is noisy, loud and abrasive, but still has a beating pop-heart. We love No Age, My Bloody Valentine, Husker Du, Black Flag, Xiu Xiu, Refused etc...

Shows regularly involve blood, sweat and tears.

We don't care about having the best quality recordings or being the most technical musicians. We just want to play, hard, fast and loud. All the time.

We've got nothing but our boredom to lose.

Fawn Spots have played across the country including shows for Upset the Rhythm, Nation of Shopkeepers and Scene Not Herd.
