The radiant debut, self-titled Ep from New Zealand’s Fazerdaze is one we’re sad to have missed in 2014. Written, played, sung and mixed by Amelia Meath, this versatile collection of pop songs hits soft highs and lows with Meath’s yearning, reverb-drenched vocals echoing around pronounced electric guitars. Stylistically pulling from the 90’s, each song advances patiently to it’s own balance of harsh and mellow. “Jennifer” drifts on effervescing synth to a hazy, dreamlike state while “Treading Lightly” sinks into a gravelly bassline. Guitars on overdrive bring out the frustration in “Tired of Waiting” even when interspersed with delicate ‘oo’s and ‘ah’s. This clever group of pop songs signals the start of another new artist to watch. - The Wild Honey Pie
When making bright tunes, artists often have difficulty hitting a sound that’s adequately poppy but still in possession of a certain authenticity. However, this is certainly not a problem with New Zealand-based songstress Fazerdaze, as she’s wonderfully masterminded a sun-soaked, nostalgic piece titled “Jennifer”.
Right off the bat, Fazerdaze transports us to a warm, optimistic sonic space with her glistening synths and mellow acoustic guitar strums, and her smooth, effortless vocals, too, drift unhurriedly atop what percussion appears. provide that aspect of authenticity we previously mentioned. It all comes across as extremely genuine and carefree, and because of that, we think “Jennifer” is a song that’s appropriate for any kind of low-key occasion.
If you’d like to listen to the rest of Fazerdaze’s self-titled EP after listening to her track below, you can do so on Soundcloud. Also, consider downloading her project on her Bandcamp or buying a physical copy of it HERE. - Hilly Dilly
The stage name of Amelia Murray, Fazerdaze really impressed with the release of her self-titled debut EP in late 2014 (Reel is our favourite track). Recorded in her bedroom, it defies that low-fi aesthetic, and showcases her artful vocals in beautifully arranged indie-pop/rock beds. Like a sweeter and more youthful-sounding Cat Power, or Warpaint, we're looking forward to her debut album out soon (hopefully). - NZ Herald
