Felt Music

Real name: Edward Keith Chatman Born and raised: March 28th, 1987 on the west side of Chicago IL.

Early life: Felt’s love for music was inspired at an early age, watching his mother sing in church and listening to late ‘60s and early 70’s R&B. He began writing and composing original pieces around age 8 years old and staging performances for family and friends when ever possible.
Growing up in one of Chicago’s many impoverished and violent communities with 3 older brothers, Felt could not avoid being swept up in the neighborhood activities. Fighting, defending themselves, and trying to stay out of serious trouble was a way of life for them and trying to keep the families heads above water was a way of life for his mother and father. Music was what he described to be his only escape, taking him away to a peaceful place.

Prison: At age 16, Felt’s mother and father separated and he began assisting his mother in running the house and raising his younger brother and sister, taking on the role of the man of the house. Several times, between the ages of 16 and 19yrs, the family fell on hard times. At age 19, Felt’s family was once again faced with the possibility of loosing their home with no place to go. Seeing his mother falling apart and feeling responsible for the well being and protection of his family, Felt took matters into his own hands the only way that he could find. In late August of 2007, he was arrested on robbery charges. He was sentenced to 4 year. He and his family were devastated, but Felt fell back on his Christian upbringing trusting and believing that God would bring him and his family through. There, is where he truly developed his love for music as he said that it took him places that he had never been before creating for him the much needed escape that would get him past this difficult time. He was released in mid February of 2011.

New Beginning: Knowing that he made bad choices in his past and very happily being reunited with his family, Felt has vowed to never revisit that path again and, to quote Felt himself “bring his family out the right way”. Still very young and having his whole life ahead of him, he has returned home with a musical passion that would rival that of his musical idols. They range from Jay Z, Kanye West, and Naz to Barry White, Isaac Hays and Bobby Womack.
He has collaborated with The Art of Music Production Company and his mix tape is expected to be released mid summer.
Felt is an old soul with a new spin. His motto is “Music wasn’t meant to be heard, It was meant to be felt”, Hence the name Felt Music.
