Bio

Patina: a sheen on wooden furniture produced by age, wear, and polishing; or any such acquired change of a surface through age and exposure.

Such is the music of Ferdinand Thomas.
Growing up in folk-heavy Richmond, VA, Ferdinand Thomas was influenced by folk musicians such as Chris Thile and Jay Unger from an early age. After acquiring his first mandolin at age 15, Thomas ventured to California to study under Thile. Later encountering the beauty of Johann Sebastian Bach and the energy of bands such as The Dodos, Thomas layered these elements into his growing folk interest. The result is a neo-classical folk rock genre that has since gone untouched by any other artist. Thomas now adds the bazouki, piano, banjo, and multiple guitars to the musical pallet and brings on fellow Richmonders Chris Payne (piano) and Graham Neal (drums) to add the layer of excellence their instrumental talent offers.

Additionally, it is not Ferdinand Thomas' musical composition that transcends generations, but also his lyrics. With depth and profound insight for a young man, Ferdinand Thomas offers forth reflection over the daily life struggles we face in each new day. Wrestling with the joy and the sorrow that can greet us at any moment, Ferdinand Thomas speaks straight to the core of any listener in his question of whether a man's worth should be found in any amount of success or failure.
