CALGARY – Exclusive to Beatroute, Victoria-based Fever Feel’s new live video for “Lose Your Mind”, the lead single from their upcoming full-length, launches today. A kinetic blast of heady ‘60s- influenced psychedelia full of groove shifts, it calls to mind the energetic, trippy vibe of Jefferson Airplane and Syd-Barrett- era Pink Floyd.

Fever Feel head out on a 7-date American West Coast tour in March. Catch them at Gateway in Calgary on Saturday, April 21st with The Ashley Hundred and Static Shift. Details at www.feverfeel.com. - Beatroute Magazine

"Fever Feel Plays Grassroots Rock ‘N’ Roll With Experience"

Real people playing real music: Fever Feel is a budding Calgary band with deep psychedelic and rock ‘n’ roll roots.

Reminiscent of early ‘60s legends such as the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, Fever Feel has culture.

Creating melodies as groovy as they are memorable, their music has an ability to take your emotions on a trip, and live performances capture audiences in a trance. It is clear that the musicians in the band are there for nothing more than the music.

The band’s first “offering,” as Logan Gabert, lead guitarist, puts it, was a three-track EP, titled, Days of Daze, released immediately after their first live performance.

Since the EP release, Fever Feel has been writing and recording their first full-length album. All the while making their way across Canada, from Victoria, BC to Halifax, NS. The band now has their sights set on international ventures.

“We’ve been recording this record over the past nine months,” said Landon Franklin, lead vocalist and bassist for the band. “Going on tours and collecting experiences. About a third of the album is going to be new songs that people haven’t heard, but even the stuff people have heard, they are going to hear it in a different way.”

Both Franklin and Gabert stressed the importance of the band having a distinctly different live and on-record sound. “We don’t want our live experience to feel the same as the recordings…when you get too close to that, you might as well just be listening to the record,” says Franklin.

Franklin and Gabert, formed the band, in 2014, and since the culmination, Fever Feel has seen many forms, with the recent inclusion of organist, Thomas Platt, an “organ wizard,” the band says.

Fever Feel has an organic sound, reminiscent of earlier pre-digital days. A jam band with live instruments only, the music feels primordial.

“Lately, that kind of music has impacted me most profoundly because of how stripped-bare the instrumentation is,” says Gabert on early blues and rock acts of the ‘50s. “The technology that they had to capture the music was so primal that it had to be done right, right then. That inspires me.”

Fever Feel is old school in their beliefs and their techniques, and it’s incredibly refreshing. Recording using reel-to-reel technology first popularized in the ‘60s, the band has full creative authority on their sound.

“For this record we are tracking to quarter-inch tape, which really has a sound of its own,” says Gabert. “Better quality doesn’t necessarily mean it sounds better,” Franklin adds.

Although techniques like this aren’t as popular anymore, the band feels no obligation to ‘get with the times’. “I don’t feel a struggle to be relevant because rock and roll isn’t as popular as it once was,” says Gabert. “We are just as relevant as anything out there because we are writing about what’s going on right now. Rock and roll, to me, is just the style we are going for: it doesn’t cover up anything.”

Later this month Fever Feel will be touring the U.S. West Coast, making their way down to California and back, with record release plans in effect for later this year. To kick off the tour, the band will also be re-releasing the Days of Daze EP.

"Feel The Fever"

Fever Feel is a newly developing musical endeavor based out of Calgary, composed of two brothers, Logan and Landon Gabert. Blowing the lid off of what it means to be self-taught and home-recorded, Fever Feel showcases years of hard work in a recently recorded ep Days of Daze. Their album is a three-song ep, which professes a sound far more expansive than its lean track number. The fluidity and dynamic emotion found within the three tracks has been so masterfully crafted that nearly all who listen cannot resist influence, having their opinions made malleable by the places this music takes a listener.

The sound that Fever Feel has chosen to house under their debut album Days of Daze ranges from psychedelic ambience to funky yet spooky bass lines and guitar work. The depth of sound this duo has packaged is dark and cavernous; these brothers have managed to interlace the sound of their instruments with Mystery itself. Their work stages shimmering guitars, ethereal synth leads and even features spattering’s of a steel guitar, painting the atmosphere of those listening in a dreamy haze. The easy listening flow of Fever Feel’s tunes is orchestrated with the ability to pull anyone to the deepest depths of any ocean and without a second thought shoot them off spiraling into the outermost reaches of the known universe. When you Feel the Fever you will find yourself in a party land filled with retrospection and heightened perception, riding on a wave of chill.Albums

The first track of the ep, “Two Sides To Every Coin”, shelters the listener in a thick cloud of emotion. The song employs lucid guitar work coupled with an eerie steel guitar component that will send shivers down any spine. The bass track is nothing less than shear brilliance strategically peering out from behind a wall of sparkling guitars that shroud the entire song in heavy, brightly colored curtains that hang from the ceiling to the floor. An extra piece of magic that truly sends these Fever Feel tracks over the top lies in the vocal work. Despite the strong instrumental Landon finds a place for words. Taking a curious approach to his singing, Landon is seemingly pushing his words to the brink of collapse, all the while stringing lyrics that weave contemplative thoughts onto the back of driving drums with remarkable ease. A descending synth lead serves as a tagline to nearly every verse sung, providing a bridge that invites the listener to build anticipation and cross over to the next chapter of the song. The trip that this song extends is dreamy and vivid. I felt as though I was wandering through a fantasy novel, being summoned onward chapter after chapter to find the answer to an illusive existential riddle.

This band fuses mystical atmospheres with unique instrument exploration, all within the fruitful environment of brotherhood. Though Fever Feel has compressed their debut into a single ep, they have not hesitated in presenting each track recorded as an awesome spectacle. Fever Feel reaches to the ends of their resources to paint the fullest sound possible. Between the epic synth work that takes you beyond the heavens and the phat bass lines that shake walls, Fever Feel leaves first time listeners reeling in fascination, sending chills through the psyches of all listening. - Levi Halsey (So Taste)

"Two Sides to Every Coin"

Our situation has greatly improved, however, on receipt of an email from one Ben Soep this afternoon who has returned from his now bi-annual band shopping trip to Canada (Calgary this time yo). One such band he has come across are today’s Track Of The Day’ers Fever Feel. There are three of them. They all have extraordinarily great hear. They seem pretty into the whole noir-style approach to promo photography in backdrops inclusive of both open fields with fences in them and the contrasting we-tour-pretty-much-all-the-time motel scene as depicted above. We’ll admit it – these guys, clearly without knowing a lot about them other than they are a band from Canada (part of that sentence is literally the subject header of the email Ben sent to us), are very fucking cool indeed. The music logically follows this in terms of cool and aesthetic. Tame Impala. San Cisco. Jack + Eliza. In The Valley Below. All that lot. They’re all in there. Have a fucking stress-free weekend and appreciate people. -

"Alter Your State Of Mind"

The music industry is muddled with countless acts that depend on superficial lyricism and predictable musical styling to make a name for themselves. By comparison, there are some rare acts who craft their art from a place of deep introspection that the listener is able to feel in their core. Fever Feel is one of the latter bands.

The vivid music produced by Fever Feel comes from the collaborative effort of Calgary-based brothers Logan and Landon Gabert, who have become masters at entrancing audiences with their ambient rock. The band’s inspiration clearly comes from the core of their being and they have exposed their inner psyches for all to see.

Growing up, these two talented artists practiced instruments together regularly, but always worked on various projects separately. It wasn’t until 2012 that they started making music together. “We write music very differently, but we compliment each other well,” Landon explains. “Working on Fever Feel is the first time we have been in the same frame of mind and working towards the same goal.”

Over time, Fever Feel’s sound has morphed into a dreamy, psychedelic state that brings on the same feelings one would experience while floating on a cloud through a sexy dream-like world.

The band is now creating a new subgenre of synth-rock that has yet to be explored. Using soothing yet raw vocals, strong bass, melodic keys, devilish drums, acoustic guitars, a steel pedal and organs, Logan and Landon are using basic instruments to create an ambient sound.

“We want to bring things back to the heart of music and just be real. Real instruments. Real feelings. Real Fever,” Landon jokes.

Fever Feel is amped to release their dreamy EP, Days of Daze, on May 29 and have continued riding the wave of inspired passion to produce a full-length album of soul-satisfying tunes.

“As musicians, we just want to partner with people in their life experience,” Logan explains. “That’s the reason we write music. There have been key moments in my life where there is a song that I can put on and it brings me right back to that place. That inspires me and that’s what we want to do for people.” And that is exactly what they are doing.

The deep level of consciousness that resonates through the tracks on their EP can be explicitly felt when you relax into their songs. For those of us who are not into that metaphysical stuff, just know that this is the type of music one should play at any given time to guarantee they will get laid by the partner of their choice.

These insightful siblings have successfully brought things back to the essence of music and have made more than just a sound; they have created an experience for their listeners. “A fever alters your state of mind. It brings on symptoms you can’t control. That’s what we want our music to do. Make people feel the fever.” - Kayla Beattie (Beatroute Magazine)

"‘Fever Feel’ heads to Red Deer to play Bo’s April 20th"

Victoria-based band Fever Feel heads to the city April 20th for a show at Bo’s.

Founded by Landon Franklin and Logan Gabert, the band is described as a mix of seventies rock with modern sensibilities – in fact, they consider themselves to be a part of a new age for rock and roll music.

The guys released an EP Days of Daze in 2014 and have also wrapped up production on a full-length debut disc for release later this year.

Having added organist Thomas Platt to their line-up in early 2015, the addition has taken the band’s already captivating sound to even greater heights.

“It’s going to be a self-titled record and full-length – I would say our first real offering,” said Franklin during a recent chat of the upcoming project.

“The vision for it is to let people know who Fever Feel is. Over the past couple of years, we’ve been touring a lot and recording this record on the off times, so we’ve been kind of taking that time to hone our sound and what we want to present as Fever Feel.”

Days of Daze included tunes recorded prior to the band’s official start as Fever Feel.

At the time, Franklin recalls the project as more of an exploration of what the guys were doing at the time – not really a definitive chapter in their creative journey.

The new project, however, marks a clearer picture of where these talented guys are now, and where they are headed.

Franklin and Gabert are in fact brothers, and the guys had an early introduction to music.

“My dad grew up playing music, so as long as I can remember, he had guitars around the house. When I was about 10 or 12, he bought me my first drum set because I refused to take piano lessons – I only wanted to play the drums,” he recalls with a laugh.

“From there on I was mainly self-taught – I’ve only had a few lessons on the drums. I don’t play drums in the band, but they were my first instrument. From there, I realized I had this love for songwriting so I kind of went with that and taught myself guitar as well.

“Logan has always played guitar, and he was also in a bunch of bands before also.”

Franklin had been involved in a number of creative projects as well before the guys decided to team up as Fever Feel.

They also found that they saw eye to eye on most things creatively-speaking, so it made sense to join forces and work on a single project together.

Looking back, Landon said his influences run deep into the traditions of old soul and blues music.

Further inspiration flows from other artists inspired by those very same genres, he noted.

These days, they both take part in the songwriting process, although Franklin is more the lyricist while the two essentially work on much of the melodies together.

“I’d say we have similar tastes, but how we look at music can be a little bit different just from the point of view. I feel that Logan has just gone through a different journey than I have,” he explains, adding that his brother comes from more of a guitarist’s standpoint where Franklin approaches things from more of a writer or poet’s standpoint.

I think it’s a unique combination.

“We also have another member – Thomas Platt – who joined us about a year after we started the band. He has definitely added to the vibe and the direction of the band (via) being an organ player.”

Meanwhile, the brothers wrote, recorded, produced and engineered the new record and are currently performing many of the new cuts while touring.

Franklin said the final product should be available by early to mid-September. There will also be a few singles on the way over the coming months as well.

“We do write a lot of songs – some of them live, some die – but for this particular record it’s very cohesive in the sense that it wasn’t hard to choose the songs that went on it because some of the songs were written specifically for the record.”

For Franklin, hitting the stage started rather early too – he was about 14 when he started playing folk songs on his guitar at cafes and school talent shows, for example.

“I fee like creating music is something I have to do,” he explains.

”There never was a plan B in terms of a career choice.

“I feel like if you have a plan B, it means that your plan A probably wasn’t really what you wanted to do,” he said.

“It’s just always been something I’ve wanted to do, and sharing it with people – performing over the years has become something like a drug. I’m addicted to it, and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.”

The future is bright indeed.

“I feel like we are at the starting line with this record.” - Red Deer Express

Somewhere Down The Line, the debut single from Victoria BC’s Fever Feel is steeped in anticipation. Infused with the hazy wash of 60’s psychedelia, the dynamic melodies, mindful composition, and powerful performance engage and captivate the listener.

Frequent touring has been a catalyst in developing the sound of the band. Dubbed by Beatroute as a “rare act who craft their art from a place of deep introspection that the listener is able to feel to their core”, the time spent on the road is reflected in their cohesive performance.

Somewhere Down The Line is the first single to be released from the bands debut LP. The record was produced by songwriting duo Logan Gabert and Landon Franklin, and recorded with organist Thomas Platt in Fever Feel’s home studio. The group teamed up with grammy-nominated mix engineer, Claudius Mittendorfer (Weezer, Temples, Parquet Courts, Johnny Marr) to mix the record, bringing the already stunning compositions to even greater heights.

A coming of age journey, a circus of circles where the present is always fleeting and change just around the bend. Somewhere Down The Line is the first taste of what promises to be compelling sonic voyage.
