Fever Pitch - "Horns" (2010)

Bio

Deejay / producer Ben Jackson spent years making experimental music and playing in punk bands in his native Newfoundland.  Over time he was drawn to the more inventive and rhythmically diverse strands of global dance and pop music. Both his deejaying and production have followed the same path - taking an experimental ethic but putting it to a popular use - that of hyping up a crowd.

Since relocating to Halifax's North End in early 2010, Fever Pitch has been tearing up a string of underground parties. Huge bass, tweaked vocal snippets, and irresistible drum rhythms have been packing dancefloors at the The Khyber, The Paragon, The Bus Stop, and innumerable all-night house parties. Some recent performances further afield have included Ontario's Teknival 2010 and Super Powered Dance Destroyer - hosted by the Meow Wolf artist collective in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

"I get a lot of "What _was_ that?" Like they loved it, they moved to it, they've got a grin on their face - but they don't know quite what they just heard."

His 2010 mixtape "Horns" crammed twenty-two tracks from a dozen different countries in under an hour, including several of his own productions. Starting out with steady dancehall rhythms, the mix slowly builds in pace, expertly weaving together styles as diverse as tropical bass, b-more, Dutch house, fidget, juke, and Shangaan electro. The name "Horns" was inspired by an instrument featured several times on the mix - the vuvuzela.

"I just love the idea of the vuvuzela as a symbol for people around the world who won't be silenced - who won't shut up. Blaring away - this unstoppable racket from the edges of the world."

Fever Pitch brings to the dancefloor heavy bass, dizzying effects, and infectious rhythms. Global racket.
