Bio
Fibralou is the first solo project from Laura Wilson.
Growing up in rural Ontario, her first loves were the songs on 1050 CHUM, the station that when not broadcasting the Blue Jays' World Series games, played the Top 40 of the fifties and sixties. The voices were full of soul.
Laura was encouraged to study jazz, and moved to Toronto to attend Humber College.
In 2013, having been playing in cover bands and teaching, she recruited Jeremiah Pick (The Pick Brothers Band) and Kenzie MacMillan (Shortline Hero) to produce some new songs. Bassist Manny DeGrandis and drummer Max Trefler (The Mohrs, WhosArmy, LYON) filled out the band. The group recorded a debut EP at Phase One Studios in Toronto, and released it at Newmarket Jazz+ Festival in 2014.
Fibralou is best described as genre-bending; flirting with soul, jazz, funk, gospel and rock. The performances are always honest and energetic.
