Leandro Layne: Violin
Aaron Layne: Bass Guitar
As the name suggests, Fiddle & Bass is a duo made up of a violin and a bass guitar. They are very much influenced by Biblical accounts and use those to channel their ideas. However, they use unconventional ways to arrive at their musical ideas by drawing heavily from the music around them. Using European art music compositional techniques they blend Jazz, Classical, Minimalist, Arabic, Caribbean folk and Caribbean popular music, Funk and others to arrive at a totally unique sound. Although they are a duo they exploit the capabilities of their instruments in terms of the timbre and effects unique to them in order to discover new sounds and create a full sounds space. Furthermore, this is no mere melody and accompaniment but a total symbiotic integration of musical material.
Although they are siblings, they rarely made music together. So they decided to enter the National Independence Festival for the Creative Arts (NIFCA) using the musical knowledge that they had both. They both got a little tired of the same old, same old and decided to take the risk to try something different. Although relatively new duo they won a gold award at the festival, capturing the James Millington Award for performance and a special award for composition. They also went on to perform at Holder's Season (http://www.holders.net/) 2009 as well as Gospelfest 2009. There are always searching for new ways to create new sounds to get their ideas across.
