"Elderhostel"

Dear Pete,

Our Elderhostel group really enjoyed your campfire program on July 18th. You got the highest marks on all the evaluations-which was no surprise to me!

"Bishop to Bodie Ride"

Hi Pete,

We were all enthralled by your artistry-not just on the fiddle, but the guitar and the mandolin. Curley Fletcher has a great representative in you. His name will live on because of you.
Thanks for the music! (Bishop to Bodie Ride, May 21-26)

Cheers,
Sue - Participant Letter

"Pokonobe Lodge Dinner Concert"

Hello Pete,

Just had to pass along how very much Steve and I enjoyed the music, the camaraderie, tastey dinner, and wonderful "story telling" this past Sunday evening at the Pokonobe. Bill and Gail have been visiting the Mammoth area for the past 5 years -and one of the highlights last year for them, was discovering you!

They purposely scoured the local paper when they arrived last Thursday to see if you were in town.....their intention was to "gift" us a memorable evening for our 32nd wedding anniversary! Steve and I both had to agree the mountain biking was excellent, the hiking was awesome, the scenery was incredible - but our evening at the Pokonobe was the "icing on the cake"!

When we think of our first visit to Mammoth - you will be at the top of our list. We look forward to listening to the CD's -thank you for sharing your gift!

Thank you - and God bless!

"Cowboys Comin' to Elko"

Fiddlin' Pete, smiles after playing a train sound on his fiddle for second-graders in Kelli Powers' class at Northside Elementary Friday. The students clapped and stomped their feet to “Turkey In The Straw,” and “ Homegrown Tomatoes.” Pete is from Bishop, Calif., and is here for the 22nd National Cowboy Poetry Gathering this week in Elko. Cowboys Comin' to Elko Shindig: Yes, rooms available for Cowboy Poetry

ELKO - Motel rooms are still available during the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering that kicks off Saturday and continues through Feb. 4.

“It ebbs and flows. They're nearly sold out, and then they have rooms, so if people call, we'll hook them up,” Elko Area Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Neil McQueary said earlier in the week.

Nearly 200 rooms were available for at least some of the days, according to a chart provided by Tracy Woodruff, administrative assistant at the chamber.

“We're getting calls all of the time from people out of town and out of state,” she said.

Both the Red Lion Inn & Casino and High Desert Inn had rooms available, and several of the smaller motels and the Comfort Inn in Carlin had rooms.

Also, a four-person cabin was listed for 71 Ranch.

More rooms are booked for late next week than earlier in the week as the gathering gains momentum.

“We go through our list of members and call them. We keep a running list of open rooms,” Woodruff said, noting there are only five motels in the area that aren't chamber members.

Those seeking rooms may call the chamber at 738-7135 to check availability during the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering.

"Songs of Curley Fletcher"

"Fiddlin' Pete uses his musical creativity and talents to give us a brilliant, imaginative interpretation of one of our all time great Western poets and song writers, Curley Fletcher.....This collection reflects the diversity of Fletchers poetry and songs as heard in "The Tome of Time" contrasted with "The Wild Buckaroo". Thanks, Pete; I believe Curley fletcher would admire and appreciate what you have done." - Dr. Guy Logsdon, Folk Music Scholar

"Music, Mustangs, & Mules"

Fiddllin Pete is a magician. Through his incredible music talent and warm, friendly personality he made our May 16-20 Mustang ride a memorable experience. Pete, you were especially great at bringing together a group of strangers and enabling us to bond through singwriting.
We'll hope to travel the trails with you again.

Bio

Fiddlin’ Pete has been playing his own brand of high energy, traditionally based Western Folk music for over thirty years. Out on the road, hitching, riding freights, and traveling in the “Lone Prairie Schooner”, (a pick-up/camper), Fiddlin’ Pete performed impromptu concerts for folks in rural communities all across America.

It was Pete’s love of the West and the people living here that led him to settle on the western rim of the Great Basin. Fiddlin’ Pete has become a popular entertainer through-out the Eastern Sierra region, playing at festivals, county fairs, schools, churches, dance halls, ranch gatherings, and for the outfitters who pack stock into and around the Sierra Nevada wilderness.

Pete often combines his culinary and musical skills to benefit non-profits and to bring the Owens Valley community together. Pete, along with his wife Kathryn, three cats, seven hens, and Zephyr, (a very intelligent border collie), live a relatively idyllic life in their rural Bishop home, surrounded by bountiful gardens and towering Sierra peaks.
