Feeling a bit camera shy

fifth business are an explosive mix of blues, pop, and guitar driven rock’n’roll from Vancouver, BC. A dynamic live performance complimented by a rich musical history – fifth business prides themselves on their distinctive sound and provocative energy.

Founding members Randy Swallow and David MacDonald began playing music together over fifteen years ago, and most recently added drummer Tim Rannard. Throughout the years Swallow and MacDonald found inspiration in their East Coast roots and slowly infused a mixture of blues and pop sensibilities to create their now unique and refined sound. With the addition of Rannard, the band naturally evolved into a well-developed power trio and is poised to become a magnetic force in the Canadian music scene. Their live show has become a force to be reckoned with, teeming with musical exuberance that time and time again leaves audiences feeling alive!

Stand out tracks include ‘Stay’ an earthy ballad that explores the band’s depth and personality through melodic vocals and driving guitars. Its chorus, “Until the rain comes to wash away, just stay” soars with sweet sincerity that truly defines their rolling roots personality. The intricate finger picking tantalizes your ears, while a wash of rock sensibility creates its body-moving groove that sweeps throughout the track.

The style and caliber of each member really shine in ‘Medicine’. Touching upon the unblinking reality of life and the decisions we’re faced with, the band has laden simple guitar stylings that are woven with a more dynamic sound, each steady build projecting the inspiring imagery Swallow is singing about. ‘Medicine’ casts you into a feeling that we’re surrounded by amazing beauty – a simple idea that’s bound to awaken change.

‘Maple Sugar’ is a bluesy rock tribute to everything sweetly Canadian. Experimenting with influences from southern US roots, this edgy track rides on its expressive guitar licks and rolling vocal changes. After a short sojourn in the “deep south”, Swallow returned to Canada with an itch to dabble in this sultry musical style. What was born was a definitive tribute to something decidedly Canadian.

fifth business takes life’s experiences to heart and translates them through their musical prowess. Brimming with raw energy, they will continue to unleash their magnetism with an upcoming full-length release.
