"Fighting Gemini taking Houston by Storm"

After spending nearly a year working on their debut album and playing a plethora of shows in and around the Houston area, Satellite Studios artist Fighting Gemini is set to take the music scene in Houston and beyond by storm in 2012. The four-piece band has spent a significant portion of the last eight months recording a full-length album with producer/engineer JR Paredes here at Satellite Studios, and the band is planning a release of the album in early 2012.

Fighting Gemini made their mainstream radio debut on April 10th, 2011 when their song “Naked Or Buried Alive” was played on North Carolina’s 99.5 “The X.” Since then, the band’s song “Test Drive” has been put into regular rotation on Rock 107.1 in Kansas as well as on Houston’s 94.5 “The Buzz.”

The band has had several recent notable performances, and they are planning several bigger shows for the new year. This past May, the band was a featured performer during a special Memorial Day TV program on Houston’s Channel 2. The band will also play a highly-touted “Texas Buzz” show at Scout Bar on January 29, 2012, and they are planning another huge show to celebrate the official release of their debut album.

Fighting Gemini’s biggest musical influences include Daughtry, Shinedown, and Nickelback, and they also perform acoustic shows and even as a cover band in and around the Houston area. "Fighting Gemini"

Sometimes, you just stumble upon good music when you least expect it. That is how I found Fighting Gemini very unexpectedly. The first song I came across was 'Naked or Buried Alive', and I thought, "Cool! A new Daughtry song." But then a minute into the song, I was like, "Now wait a minute, that's not Daughtry." Fighting Gemini have their signature stamped all over the chorus of that song. Though not a completely new sound, it was intriguing enough to make check them out. And I'm glad I did too.

Their other song, 'New Friend', has a sound that is more their own. It is a pacy song with some awesome crunchy guitars and drums that totally hit you in the gut! 'Test Drive' has the rough, edgy quality that can get the blood coursing through your veins and rushing in your ears. The gritty guitar riffs and punchy drums woven with Mike Donnell's spirited vocals make for a great Alt/Rock number. One of them's sure going on my playlist. (Check the sidebar). 'Tonight' is a clean piece of Adult Rock that should not be passed up if you really want to know what this band is really about.

They're soon coming out with their first full studio album. Hmmm... the songs have sure piqued my interest enough to wait for the album. Let's see how that turns out.

Verdict: They are like a tribute band to Nickelback and Daughtry.

Bio

Mike Donnell – Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar

Mike Donnell rocked his first guitar from his grandfather who won it in a poker tournament when he was a mere 9 years old. From that day, it all changed for him. Self educating himself, working his fingers to the bone, his love for music evolved. While putting his love for music on hold and protecting America ’s freedom, Mike found a guitar in a house that was taken over by US forces in Iraq and re-claimed his passion that was put on hold. With a little bit of time, stubbornness for his passion of music and, the internet, he once again began to rock his musical ability to the fullest; taking his passion and ability to the public and made an immediate impact on the acoustic scene with free shows and open mic’s in the Houston area. After finishing in top 10 of The Woodlands Idol Competition, his hunger for more grew. Fighting Gemini was then created just a few weeks later.

Nick Drake - Lead Guitar

In 2001 Nick purchased his first guitar with some money he'd earned doing yard work. He soon found he couldn't put the guitar down and did everything in his power to master the tool of the trade. After deciding guitar lessons were a waste of time Nick began to teach himself. While learning guitar, Nick also learned to play the clarinet and saxophone in school band where he learned the basics of sheet music and reading, which strengthened his commitment to music. However, once he discovered guitar tablature he quit school band and focused solely on his one love: guitar. His first band, 'Easton Common', was a complete failure but it taught him two things: if you're going to play music, surround yourself with good musicians and wear your heart on your sleeve. He started to branch out and play with as many musicians as possible to expand his horizons, starting several projects that never fully developed, including 'Days Before', an original hard rock band that gained a small local following. After a few years of prodding the band to move forward with minimal results he left in search of like minded musicians who were dreaming big. At a chance meeting with lead singer, Mike Donnell, it was obvious they shared the same ideas and aspirations about music and during their first “jam session” in a buddy's garage, they had written most of what would become Fighting Gemini's first song, 'New Friend'.

José Antonio (Pico) Cisneros - Drums/Percussion

Born south of the border, in Monterrey Nuevo Leon Mexico, Antonio Cisneros developed an incredible passion for music at a very young age. Growing up listening to artists such as Slash (Guns n Roses) and Dimebag Darrell (Pantera), he had his heart set on becoming the next greatest guitarist. At the age of seven, Antonio’s parents bought him his first guitar, but it was only a year later when he realized he belonged behind a set of drums. He received his first drum set at nine years old and has been rocking the rhythm section ever since. Antonio has been in, and toured with, numerous bands around the southern Texas area such as Losing the Fight, Sydney Harbor, Envy the Return, Kill the Rhythm, and several others. He is a self-taught musician who is also familiar with bass and keyboard, but he is a drummer first who finds music to be one of the most important things in life.

Josh Weikel-Bass

Josh bought his first bass his freshman year of high school with money he earned from a summer job. After self-teaching himself how to play, Josh joined up with some high school friend who had formed Regressive Memory. The band won some battle-of-the-bands shows and even gained a local fan base, but the band ultimately split up so everyone could go their way to college. A three year hiatus from music followed, and Josh came away learning two things: there wasn't anything that brought Josh more happiness than playing bass and his life isn't the same without it. With his passion rekindled and a determination to be a great musician, Josh devotes everyday to pushing himself further.
